Pantygynt, this is very clever. I like how you have chosen to vary your font in different colours for each stanza. Not only does it mimic the flowers of topic but it makes for an easier and more interesting read, on top of the fine compilation. The beauty of flowers and the bruteness of war is an effective contrast. Excellent! ~DD

I like your marrying of gardens with poetry, the wild and the formal. 'Serried Ranks' is frankly a delicious couple of words. I don't know why, I've always liked the term and seldom get chance to use it. I too prefer the wild ones, but there's something to be said, in gardens and in poetry, for letting it all hang out.

A good comparison between the formal style garden and the more free flowing garden to the regiment of the soldier.I enjoyed this read,
cheers,

Soldiers on parade in serried ranks is fine but I don't much care for flowers emulating them. Lol. Many thanks for the review.

I had in thought about my petunias and how they have fought hard through sometimes terrible weather to stay alive with beauty. Thanks for sharing your poem.

Lovely sonnet, Gynt, and I like the subterfuge of reviewing a free verse piece with a form that praises freedom while itself bound by the sonnet's strict structure and rhyme.

My only doubt would be whether the meaning of this would come through without being aware of the background to it.

Thank you so much for your comments in review, I had hoped that the hint within the couplet made the point, not that it matters really if it did not come through.

-I love this image;
it is gorgeous, and
the presentation matches it well.
-Notes are appreciated.
-A well written sonnet with
an interesting comparison between
the garden and a regiment.
-You show that well with
"They bloom and flourish..."
-A good volta and
concluding couplet.
-Thanks for sharing.

The prettiest sight of all is a field blooming with a mass of different wild flowers, which some unkindly call weeds. The natural flower is far, far prettier than the cultivated and stronger too. This is a wonderful response to Dolly's poem, Jim, and poetically sound too. The rhyme and rhythm are as perfect as that picture above it. Well done, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

And one so seldom sees it these days. the fields in which my home stands were last ploughed during WW2 so they don't really qualify as meadow since that should never have seen the plough but they did produce a good crop of buttercups earlier on.

Many thanks for your sympathetic review.

This is a wonderfully penned sonnet. The marriage of the garden to the fate of soldiers creates a powerful image with many different meanings and emotions contained therein. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and thank you very much for sharing.

Great personifiction. Good similie and sibilance throughout the sonnet. The irony of it all. Clearly written as it was well thought out. Excellent flow of rhythm and rhyming. Great work :)

"Gardens", is an extremely well-written and deftly-descriptive piece. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. You KEEP WRITING and I'll KEEP READING. I look forward to seeing your next post.
