What a beautiful tribute! You are blessed indeed to have someone to inspire such a tribute. I love that first line"I can understand you because our hearts beat with the same intensity and rhythm and tempo." Spoken like a true music teacher!

Yes, I guess that's true, isn't it! I just now realized that I think that is how I connect with people. I feel the rhythm of their heart. It never dawned on me why until you put it that way. Thank you for the epiphany!!! xo

Music lovers have their own way of seeing the world! You communicate your love for music on lots of subtle ways as you write. :)

I am struck with how you turned the 'I Can' theme toward the other person. The more obvious thing would be to make it an affirmation of oneself or relate it to facing some uphill battle or challenge.Your poem is about relationship and empathy, affirming the self and someone else. Really nice!

Your words are infused and resonate with the sound of two hearts beating as one. You've found the one that compliments you in a complete way. Their is no doubt what these beautiful words are saying and the recipient of them is all aglow basking in the warmth and reassurance of them. I've enjoyed yet another well written work Rachelle. Well done and keep them coming!

Oh, such a wonderful twist on the usual angle of this contest, my friend!! ;) ;) That the 'I Can' refers to the heart of a relationship with another.... just beautiful!! ;) ;) Such a well-thought-out free verse, Rachelle -- Bravo, my lady! :) ;) Be sure to share with the wonderful husband!! ;) ;) Best of luck in the contest!! ;) ;) Yvette

Hooray! Sooo... is it July 20th..? ;) ;)

reply by the author on 04-Jul-2019
No, the 26th. Three days before my birthday. He was my 'gift' from my father who, since he died in 1982, has always bestowed a present on my birthday. xo

Hi Rachelle. I like the entire poem because the narrative is praising the likenesses rather than the diversity of two people. Of the stanzas, I like the fourth the most and the last two lines. In my Story "Perry the Flying Penguin" My last line was saying there was a "Perry shaped hole in the world" and Perry fit it perfectly. Z

Rachelle. I need to edit the original because it was one of the first posts and I didn't know how to use the advanced editing so there are extraneous characters and other strange things there. I have since learned how to use the advanced.

You should win this one, Rachelle. It's so sweet, especially that last stanza. This is a love poem. What you "can do" is easy. You took the contest and turned it around. All the other poems have the writer doing hard things. I love the originality of this piece. I will be looking for your name on the leaderboard for sure.

Beautifully expressed. This makes a wonderful contest entry, and best of luck. I like the straight-forward wording. You make good use of the "I Can" subject, with your thoughts that you can understand, admire, feel his pain, and love forever. A lovely Valentine's Day tribute, so hold on to it! judi

I didn't notice all the 'I can's' (which is a compliment). Sometimes repetition of a phrase can be 'in-your-face- but this works well. Good luck in the contest.

I CAN scream and cry as I am out of sixes! This is such a loving tribute to your other. Do not change one single thing about this. I love every bit of it, from your poem to the visual chosen. I hope you wrapped this up and gave it as a gift to him! Your writing is a gift. Cherish it.
Wendy
