What an interesting way to look at that piece of history and well done with your rondeau with its super long lines. In the recent TV series, "The Crown," I learned of Edward's Nazi connection, so perhaps it was more than just Wallis, they didn't like.

Many thanks for making that point in your review. In the late thirties there were quite a few of the English upper class who nurtured a secret admiratiion for Hitler, mainly because they admired his apparent efficiency and his dislike of communism. Most changed their minds later on.

I know I have mentioned this previously but just love the historical side of poetry and story telling. Great write Jim, and I can imagine you reading this out aloud. Cheers Colin

Thank you for the beautiful rondeau and the fountain of information both in the poem, as well as in the comments part. I enjoyed reading about both subjects. Edward and the type of poetry chosen.

If more brilliant rhymes exist, then you must show me 'em..

That you manage to weave such intricate rhymes into such a tight structure (I see what you mean about the repeated phrase carrying you ceaselessly back into the past) and still tell the story in a coherent way is a testament to the care that must have gone into crafting this one.

I like the dual use of and thus he goes - one going toward the throne, the other away from it - clever.

Let's hope Prince Harry has well noted what can happen when a royal marries an American.

Yeah H seems to like tempting providence but then he is not in line for the crown. Anyway I wish him luck, and Meg is a stunner. Many thanks for thus supportive review and the generous grading.

Very nicely done. The altered meanings in your repeats enable the story to flow uninterrupted. It is strange to think how much the modes of society have changed in the last century. Princes of Wales have been a rum lot through the ages!

Thanks for this splendid six star review. It is much appreciated. I wonder what odds Ladbrookes are offering on Charles, worn out by Camilla, predeceasing his mother.

Good job - and now look at the heirs to the throne - they're so mucked up it's not even news any longer. Who hasn't been divorced as yet. And can Charles be king since he was divorced = and had one on the side? The strange lives of the royalty.

We had no choice though. Look at what you lot offer the pond have chosen as your rulers! Mind you what we do have a hand in we tend to muck up as well. Lol. Thanks for reviewing

Tis true - you don't have a choice - we support our President this time, however, many of our congress really should retire - and the others need to get out into the countryside and talk to the people. It would seem they do not listen to the everyday person any longer. But you all can vote for Prime Minister and Mayor can't you? just wondered.

On this occasion very few people will be able to Express an opinion via the ballot box as only party members have a vote this time and there are not many of those.

You have shared this slice of history in an excellent way with stellar rhyme, and interesting tidbits woven throughout the lines. It was a challenge that has definitely been well-met!

I can tell you've put a great deal of work into this poem, especially finding words that rhyme with podium. The story is structured well in this difficult format, and it's a nice twist at the end to remind us all how much times have changed.

Thank you for this review. Yes it was hard to write as the form is not well-suited to a story poem.

This rondeau, A Right Royal one, has the proper formatting and brings back the man who left the throne for the woman he loved. Those American girls will make you cray cray.

We didn't object to the possibility of an American Queen but the idea of a double divorce as wife of the head of the Church of England was too much for society to take back then. Even today Camilla had to promise not to take the title Queen when and if Charles manages to scramble onto the throne.

Hi Panty.gint
This is an interesting situation. The reviewer (myself) is actually the student...

First of all, I would like to thank you for introducing me to this form of poetry. Secondly, I would like to tell you that I love your brilliant writing! I admire your nerve in injecting the line "in mock salute, a low note farted for the loser in this game of thrones." Also I like your comparison to the current king-in-waiting, Charles "who's acted much the same."

Thank you for the privilege of reading and reviewing this masterpiece.

Susan
