Very nice entry! I thought it read in a conversational, natural way. Just noticed a few tiny fixes. Where it says "I have traveled the World" I would un-capitalize world. There are a few more, but not too bad. Amazing read!

Congratulations on placing in the contest. Your story is inspirational and I hope you will have it published if you haven't done this already. One suggestion is to approach Daily Word, a spiritual ( not religious) magazine produced by Silent Unity which publishes true stories.

Both myself and my husband have been in rehab over the past few years. The therapists are wonderful. So skilled, so encouraging.

I salute the indomitable spirit with which you face adversity. Yet, for me, the highpoint of your story was the help you extended to the double amputee. Surely you were a Godsend to him.

Take care. Enjoy your weekend.

Blessings Julia

good grief, Aussie - you are one brave gal and I'm sure, an inspiration to everyone you meet. That was neat that you got your double amputee friend walking again.
One thing I wish you had done was had a snappy comeback for the horrible man who said about the shark bite. But you rose above it like a lady, so good for you.
Sounds to me like you have been doing lot of good things for others.
Do you mind saying what kind of accident you had?
Are you still writing?
Well, hope to hear back. Best wishes,
Katharine - pome lover

G'day from Oz. Hi, Katherine, thanks so much for reading and your comments were spot on. I will always reply to you my friend. I was riding a motorcycle home from work, taking my time; car came out on my left from a stop sign. I had no where to go. Hit him full on and catapulted across his hood. I was thrown 25 meters and ended up on the opposite side of the road in the path of oncoming traffic. Luckily, a truck driver called it in and the ambulance was 10 mins away. I was critical and died on the table. They brought me back and after nine transfusions and thirteen operations, couldn't save the leg. A lot of damage was done to above and below my fractured knee. I could go on and bore you, I won't because you are such a lovely person. Much love, Kace.

    Kace,
Well, I repeat, you are remarkable, strong and KIND! What a ghastly time you have had. Did the guy have insurance? Did you receive any compensation - not that anything could be, but you were certainly owed.
I do hope you're doing something that is rewarding to you - that you enjoy.
    What is your winter like?
Here in Texas it is hot as blue blazes. The other night at 10:30 I was out watering plants and it was 92 degrees. Ridiculous.
I am enjoying these silly contests - waxing poetic as usual.
Thanks for taking the time and interest to answer my question.
    Bless you,
    Katharine

92F at 10.30 at night!? That is our daytime temp. in summer. The weather has gone Wacko Jacko! Yes, have had an interesting life working with the less fortunate. I am also a 'sensitive'- seer if you like. Everyone has a second-sight, mine is well-honed. Healing through Reiki is one of my gifts also. Lots of Love, Kace.

reply by pome lover on 26-Jul-2019
how wonderful to have such a gift! Everyone has second sight??? will have to look up Reiki.
    in awe,
    K

reply by the author on 28-Jul-2019
Please look up second-sight my friend. We all have it, some just don't use it, a gift. Reiki is energy healing. The body has an aura around it, when sickness hits, I put a band-aide on the area I see with my second-sight. Love, Kace.

reply by pome lover on 28-Jul-2019
will do. My sister, who has horses, has a guy who uses a similar healing method, she says and she can see the horse responding.

A very well-written heartfelt and inspiring story. When we lose a limb our whole life and world changes and when we are not willing or able to adapt and accept what happened we will be lost for the community and we will just keep feeling sorry for ourselves.

Hello Sandra, Thanks so much for your true comments. Are you an amputee? I only ask because you said, "when we lose a limb." Every person is different. Life is out there to enjoy, so I am still doing things, albeit slowly. Love, Kay.

reply by Sandra du Plessis on 17-Jul-2019
Yes, I am an amputee now for nine years, also doing most things myself whenever I am able, unfortunately I am in a wheelchair most of my time. Proteses are not so good here and not very affordable.

Hello Aussie,
Your story is great and more than deserve six stars. Everyone whether they are amputees or not should read your story. I understand how you would have felt when you had the accident. I have been through a few scrapes but not as serious as yours. The 1st was when I hurt my back and lost the use of both legs and thankfully regained their use. the more recent was when I fractured my pelvis in two places. Got over that too and am back on my feet. I don't know what I would have done if I was in your place. My prayers are with you for more strength and courage. You need that sometimes. Best wishes in the contest.
Sylvia

Sylvia, Good to know you recovered from your injuries. Life changes us and a new door opens. Thanks so much for reading. Love, Kay.

Yes, Kay, lessons learnt and new doors have always opened for the better. I am now a visionary and intercede for the hopelessly sick, especially cancer patients. God gives us sufferings, after all, He endured much. If we are to live in the image of Christ we must accept and endure our suffering.

Super job with this non-fiction essay, Kace. Great work. Well described of a complicated situation. I think most people DO wonder about replacement limbs and if they keep the same one or not. You've delved into that here and cleared it up. You're a courageous lady with a great attitude and outlook on live. My mom used to say the same thing, "life is an adventure." It certainly is. Best of luck in the contest with this fine entry. Hugs, Marilyn

Well told and good to know that you can and do put a face of "good" on the disability and that you're helping disabled children. They need someone who's been there (and yes, I have false teeth and know exactly what you're saying)
A good essay - needs to be read so folks can understand. One of my dear friends - her husband has lots both feet now due to diabetes. I need to call her again soon and see how they're doing. They had sold their house and belongings and lived in a motor home for some years before this happened - now I don't know if they can travel as they once did - you deserve a lot of credit for trying so hard for so long.

Dear Gail, I don't know where you live, in America? Perhaps your friend's husband can be fitted with prosthetic feet? Great strides have been made in this area. I am a diabetic myself, do understand. Depending on lots of factors e.g. age, wellness etc. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Kace.

Welll thank you very much. I believe I first heard that he was considering this option when he'd only lost one foot. The other foot soon followed. It makes me very sad when I think of how much they enjoy travel, but God knows. They are both strong Christian people. Thank you.

Good luck in the contest Kace, you did very well presenting this in such a positive way. Nothing got you down and you were an inspiration to others. I imagine you were a great nurse because you have become a fantastic amputee. Well done.

This is a wonderful story for the contest, Kace. You're story is raw, telling it the way it was and still is. You continue helping others even after you suffered a terrible loss yourself. Well done my dear. God bless you and good luck in the contest. xxx Nancy:)
