Hello Sanku,
Nice piece of poetry in the form of 'Tanka' meeting the desired norms, 5-7-5-7-7, and transparently depicting its theme.
Impressive and perfectly matching the theme phraseology.
Picture enhances depth and beauty of the poem.
Best of Luck!

I'm so sorry for your water shortage. It's amazing how little we know about whats going on in other parts of the world. Your words and picture choice changed that.. at least for me. Best of luck in the contest.

I saw something on the news about your plight a week of two ago, your entire Lake has dried up and just about vanished I believe. It was a huge lake too? Scary, and some people say there is no global warming going on!
Good luck in the contest friend, I hope you get rain, and lots of it soon !

You admirably described the heat crisis facing many places on our good earth.

Your dried, cracked faces reflect how the parched ground looks to us - all waiting for the rain to make us smile again.

Best wishes for your contest entry.

Hi Sanku, This is a really descriptive Tanka. I had no idea that India was having a drought right now. I guess there's a lot going on here weather-wise. It's hard enough to keep that all straight. Here, the west is burning down... or up I guess, depending on how you look at it. ... The east is drowning under a ton of rain. I guess you can't win no matter where you are this time of year.

yes our part of india suffers from drought while west and eastern side there is a flood now! look at the irony. The clouds gather and as we watch hopefully a strong wind will drive them away .perhaps the y shed right above the ocean! but rains are predicted.thanks for reading..

Hi Sanku, You think that's ironic? You should see this country! I really think I live in the safest zone, I'm in the northeast. Way up in New England. This time of year, on the West coast, in California and some other western states, there are tremendous wildfires. They've been going on all summer. I can see somewhere around 75 different wildfires spread across around 15 states (in an L shape across the west and the south). They usually don't go across the south. I don't know what's going to happen there. I can tell you what will happen in California though. It happens every year. The forests burn, they lose a lot of homes and neighborhoods now too, the fires are getting larger. Then it will be rainy season. It will rain, a lot. With no greenery to hold it back, the mud will slide down the hillsides and mountains, sending rocks, mud and boulders across roads and through homes if they're at the base of the wrong hill.
The next year it starts again.
If you live in the middle of the country, you get a nice time of the year when twisters will drop out of the sky without warning and wipe out your ass. Just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz or the movie Twister. It used to happen in an area they called, Tornado Alley, because it was shaped like your finger... a long thin line from northern Texas, into Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. I don't think the alley has expanded westward, but I know it's expanded its eastern boundary most of the way to the east coast. Here, I only have to worry about the occasional hurricane. I have a ton of warning and by the time it reaches me it's usually blown out for the most part anyway. :) Here we get a little extra wind and rain, we may get buried in snow and lose power for a bit, but we're used to that now. lol

It is stunning this difference in the topography. I have read about wildfires.I always think when mother nature decides to get angry.

What I read in your notes made me very sad. Water is so necessary! But we don't often realize that it's a luxury.
Thanks for sharing. Good luck in the contest. I love your poem.

This is going to be a tough $100 to win! I've read some really fine Tanka and this is among the best! I love it when the response to a contest:
A.) Calls for some real understanding of a form (such as a Tanka) --as opposed to the infinitely posted one line poem contests

and

B.) The entries show a depth of understanding in a broad range of themes and are moving.

You've done a bang up job on this one!

Karenina
