Seeing as how you penned this in 1960, how has it turned out for you? Did fear, and grief and sorrow turn up?... it's another, later day now. And also, are peace and joy still with you, like you proclaimed back then? Did greed, and hate, and envy stay away after you sent them on their way? How persistent do those emotions get? I feel sure they hang around all the time, just on the periphery maybe. You've given us a poem worth thinking about, with its rich emotional layers.
"I'm not the one I need to be,
perhaps I was not ever," How many of us have actually presented this fact in our lives. I know I have. Still, do lol. What a great little piece you have crafted.
Beautiful poem! Your rhythm is spot on and you positive outlook is a wonderful issue to present to the community! I write a lot about sadness, but in fact I live with joy in my heart! It not only benefits our mind and spirit, but also helps keep our bodies healthy! xoxo
I have no more stars to give.
I like the words of your poem and in-between the words the message was powerful yet true. You captured my attention from the first line to the last This is what I call a food for thought write.
Thank you for sharing
A nice poem about being a better person. What behaviors to get rid of and which to keep. Plans for other behaviors to get rid of on yet another day. Then the peace and the joy will be here forever! That's a clear plan!!
I know far too many who have NEVER learned these facts of life...and indeed, regrets were uttered on their death bed when suddenly vision cleared and what is truly important comes into focus! God Bless you for realizing the truth of what is special in life way back in 1960! Thank you also for being generous enough to pass it along...we all need a refresher course!---Karenina
In my opinion, another striking, rhyming write by this prolific poet for us to read and enjoy in the personal view of self. The rhyming rhythm is smooth, as always, and the reflective insight touched with sly humor...
