This is a catchy and beautiful poem, and one of the better that I've seen of the tributes to Dean Kuch. Like many of us, I wish I'd had the chance to know him better, but I suppose the best way to know him would be through his words. Your tribute serves his memory well.

I never met him face-to-face, but through his writings and exchanging reviews, you can feel like you know someone. In addition to being very talented, he seemed like a really nice guy.

Yep. I think Dean would have loved your poem. I'm also very fond of that rhyme scheme. You did a fine job getting the rhythm down pat. I enjoyed the read. A fine tribute to a good friend,

Thanks - I knew I wanted to write something in the pattern of "The Raven" as that was one of Dean's favorite poems. Glad you liked it and that you thought he would have.

Hi Mark,
I really like your tribute to our Dean. I'm sure he would love it, too. I see no disrespect, just a very finely written poem. He had a sense of humor. Shall we say "dark comedy"?
Anyway, I like it. Especially, these lines,
"Poems designed to scare each reader, told with flawless rhyme and meter,
Now he reads them to St. Peter as he walks through heaven's door -"
(psst... I would change "St." to "Saint")
What a compliment you give him!
"Poe and Shelley* had a baby, left him at a farmer's door." ...(could it be true?)
Thanks for sharing!
cheers
Kimbob

Thanks - in another context I had suggested to Dean that he might be the love child of Poe and Mary Shelley - he seemed to like that idea, so I included it here.

Thanks for that Mark. I'm sure Dean would love it. I do. It is by far the best tribute to the talented wonderful Dean. FS will not be the same without him for sure.
Love Jen.

Thanks, Jen - he was indeed talented, and though I never met him, I can't imagine that he could have been anything but a great guy.

I got the rhythm of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" too. Nice job on that. Funny literary reference to Poe and Mary Shelley, and the author note made me smile. Thank you for this awesome tribute poem! No idea what to improve.

Thanks, in another context I had shared with Dean my thought that perhaps he was the love child of Poe and Mary Shelley - he seemed to like that thought, so I thought I'd include it here.

Thank you my brother would have loved this. I'm not sure if any one knows this but way back in early 70s Dean collaborated on the original star wars artist renderings and original story boards, he use to be quit the artist. He will be missed. Thank you Jeffrey Cook Silverlake WA

So sorry for your loss, Jeffrey - I'm sure you've learned this by now, but your brother touched literally hundreds of people on this website who, even though they had never met him, were impressed by his talent, his faith and his humor. In addition to his horror writing, it was also clear that he had a passion for writing about our need to protect children from abuse.

I didn't know about his connection to Star Wars (I'm not surprised though, given his artistic talent and imagination). He will definitely be missed.

A very well-written poem and tribute to Dean, I think he will like the little humor for a change, he was a kind and happy go lucky guy and never put on any pretenses.

Thanks - yes "unpretentious" is a good adjective for Dean (as are "talented" "funny" "spiritual" ,etc.

Aw, Mark, anyone who didn't recognize that this poem is a mark of respect to Dean is not thinking clearly because Dean loved a good laugh. I enjoyed the image of baby Dean being the offspring of Poe and Mary Shelley and left on a farmer's doorstep. HAHAHA! He'd love this, I'm sure. :)))

This tribute is very well-written and moving. I love the rhyme and meter;
even more I appreciate the touch of APPROPRIATE humor. I've been to several funerals where a preacher made us laugh through our tears.
Dean would love this!
