My son is a rail buff and Federally Certified Train Engineer--so, I had to read this poem! I admired your dramatic storytelling about the young heroes in these rhymed couplets in quatrains. Big cheers- Joan

My husband's father was a steam-train driver, that gave me the idea. I'm sure your son is enjoying his job, too. I'm glad you enjoyed reading this one. Thank you so much, Joan. :)) Sandra xx

My son is actually a sound engineer at the Disney Studios, but he volunteers for the Fillmore and Western trains every weekend! How neat to have a steam-train driver in your family too. Smiles- Joan

This is AWESOME! As you were telling the story through the poem, it was easy to imagine the scene. This would be a great book! Rhyming was great. Well done! Wishing you the best in the contest.
God Bless,
Bill & Cathy

Hello Sandra,
A wonderful railroad tale within your poem.
In years past, the steam trains where mystical apparitions that that rumbled along the track and stirred the imagination of kids everywhere.
Oh, those magical places they must have led to.
My dad was a model railroader with a layout that filled the basement.
Nicely rhymed with two young heroes, and a great reward - to pull that whistle chain. Good luck in the contest.
Six toots!
Robert

Thank you, Robert! Sorry I'm a bit late replying, my head is stuffed up with the flu, and I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself, :( But, not to worry, your review put a big smile on my face, bless your heart. Thank you so much for the sixer, dear friend, I'm just sorry you might have missed the payment. I'm pleased you enjoyed this, and I'm wondering, do you have a basement full of railway lines and trains going under bridges and over them as well? I know my son did and one time, he's now trying to convince his wife that he needs a special room just for his little hobby. lol. Your dad had the right idea. Thanks again, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Sandra, I loved reading this lilting story. The meter added to the quality and the enjoyment of it. You did a great job developing a plot and turning it into metered rhyme. Well done.

This is a delightful poem, my friend. I live a few miles from the Kate Shelley bridge. It is said that this young girl haunts the bridge which was washed out when the river flooded and washed the bridge away. She was killed but stooped the train from derailing into the river by flagging it down. Lovely entry for the contest, my friend~Debbie

Thank you so much, Debbie, for this wonderful review and all those shiny stars!! I'm so pleased you enjoyed my poem. :))

Your story was so sad! That poor, brave young girl gave her life to save others. I take it Kate Shelley is her name, and the bridge was named after her. Such a sad tale, but thank you for sharing it with me. Big hugs, my friend. Sandra xxxx

What a great story told in perfect rhyme. I absolutely love trains ever since childhood which was long ago. Your story moved along so well and kept me entertained all the way through. What a perfect ending you had, too, those little boys would be so thrilled to pull the chain for the whistle. We live on acreage with railway track close by. I absolutely love watching the trains, not steam of course, but they are so very long now, well over a hundred cars and many trains per day. Thanks for sharing your great story and good luck in the contest!! Blessings, Carol

That is something we don't have in England, trains with that amount of cars, probably because they don't have to travel the distance they do in America. That must be quite something to see.
Thank you so much for your lovely review and for sharing your own story. I'm so pleased you enjoyed reading my poem. Big hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

What an exciting and dramatic story. I was carried along on this ride with heart in mouth to see what was going to happen. Great storytelling! I enjoyed it. I was worried the boy with the red rag was going to get killed.

This was a very enjoyable poem and could belong in a children's nursery book! I will have to read this to my little boy. He is currently in love with trains!

This is a great story in a poem, Sandra. I enjoyed reading it. Your lines flow smoothly, the rhymes are great, and the story told is intense. The ending is super, too. I really like the picture you chose. This is a great read aloud poem. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Respectfully with Admiration. Jan
