His Holiness is quite brutal in the way he treats the man who cut off the hands of His Holiness's sons was punished by having the caliph's hands cut off and them murdering his wife and children. This sounds like what these people are capable of. His Holiness's daughter is not allowed to speak and is garbed all in black. Such forward thinking people! Great details about the life in His Holiness's circle. judi

The thinking seems to be that we can't be judgmental about different cultures. They're all fine and dandy. judi

Yes, this certainly a chapter in a book of "Mystery and Crime"--I hope fictional, but world events lead me to think otherwise. I admired the tension you sustained and the suspenseful ending. Sighs- Joan

I liked this post but am wondering if you can fit in a little more description about their journey to the village. I think it would help. I'm pretty sure his daughter will be just fine.

OK Thomas you got me interested. The bait is the beautiful daughter the hook in the mad holy man and the faith of Banner is to be define. I believe Banner was walking to his execution, on the top of the hill is the alter, the TV cameras and what-nots. I don't know this but I feel it. Yet, "along the mountain path, part of the footing gave way beneath the holy man's daughter." May change everything I just wrote. Waiting on the results.

Hi Thomas,
I have only just come across "The Deadly Wind". I am so afraid for the world today as this barbaric religion creeps across the world. I do not understand their logic or comprehend their attitude toward torture or death. How is this even a religion if filled with so much hate.
A good read but I found it un-nerving.

A very well-written chapter about the holy man's children the son's hands are chopped off because he wrote an article about the enemies, the daughter don't speak much and is about to fall down a cliff.

It's too funny how I was just thinking Banner should be scared climbing up a slope in unknown territory when I read what was said to him and how he reacted. Well done and thank you very much for sharing it.

Well, this is a real cliff hanger. Will they let her fall because she is a woman, or will they save her because she is the holy man's daughter? That is the question. Such violence. Good job, Thomas. Nancy:)

Thomas,

Now, the sheik has called Banner here for some purpose, right? But we don't know what that purpose is yet? The sheik still thinks that Banner is a journalist and we are waiting for the true meaning for the visit to unfold. Hmmm...

Okay. All caught up.

Fab chap.

This is an intriguing read. I particularly like the penultimate paragraph; it "sets up" the reader for the short paragraph that follows. That's nicely structured {thumbs up}.

Just one minor point you might like to consider:

Sheik Abdul pulled back his sleeves to reveal stubs where his hands had been. -- I don't know if this is one of those transatlantic English language differences, but here in the U.K. "stumps" would be the more usually term to use rather than "stubs".
