I can not fix anything that someone else is creating. (How very true) Whether they are creating beauty or chaos is for them alone to determine.

Have you read, The Language of Letting Go? It was written by Melodie Beaty and is an excellent daily reading on boundaries. It helped me through determining that a continued relationship with my family was not in my best interest. They are sick people who kept pulling me down. Best wishes with your relationships, my friend~Debbie

I think your metaphor for boundaries is nicely written.
You have an interesting concept here and it makes one think. Just what it was supposed to do, right.
Well done.

    Thanks for reading.
Learning to let people do there own thing and just because they want to talk to you about it- doesn?t mean they want you to fix anything.

This is a well written story and the metaphor is very effective although your notes did help me to understand. The picture is a nice complement to the piece. Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you for reading,
I think I could have written that better, but I needed to get it out. My writing clarifies and soothes my demons.
The reviews help with a perspective outside myself.
For myself, the best line was giving a frame-Giving support as others find their own way.

A very creative write friend. The scribbles by which we live our life our ours and ours alone, we can offer them up when asked and live them to the extent that they are seen and appreciated by those that know us BUT we cannot push them on others with expecting a reaction. A great write friend : ))

Sometimes we think that what we know might be the answer to a problem, and we extend our hand which may be accepted or rejected. When it is rejected confusion steps in and we step back in that instance and re-evaluate our decision. It doesn't mean we were wrong because we were rejected, it might only mean someone had there own way. Unless it is a blatant withdrawal, I would not stop reaching.

    Thank you for reading.
I am walking through the pain along side my son. I am not making any decisions for him. I find the pain overwhelming, but I am not running away from it. I will be holding the frame, when he has his own dreams.
I still reach...just can not fix.
All my children are loved more than they will ever understand. I am thankful that I can give them love no matter what. Mother love is strong.

Oh, ye s, I think most parents feel this. I talked about it a little in my Thanksgiving essay, that is, seeing the direction my son was headed in (a good thing) but trying not to push him. There are times they w ant us to scribble on their pages.

    Thank you for reading,
Thank you for the encouragement to still be there. My children must make their own decisions and if they ask me to scribble I will.
It will be a good thing someday to look at the beautiful pictures they have drawn

Wow -- this is really quite the insightful writing!! To look at our work as 'scribbles' .... BEAUTIFUL 'scribbles' .... but those of our own creation is wonderful because - just as you say - even though ours is wonderful, it would NOT be wonderful to mar someone else's drawing/scribbles with out own: they are not us and we are not them! Buy them a frame for theirs and enjoy it for what it is! BRILLIANT!! ;) :) Thanx for sharing such a cool point!! ;) :)

    Thank you for reading.
I often write about what I am in the middle of working on. My son is an alcoholic. I want so badly to fix this. Even worse, it looks like he is going to get into a 30-60 day program- I want to call the place and make sure they got him. I want to help him pack, etc etc. I mostly wish he was a little boy again that I could shelter from the world. This I can not do.
He is painting his own picture- it will be beautiful because he is.

I have to let him be a man. And it hurts not to fix it.

Writing definitely helps me to keep me to stand where I must

I guess this happens to most mothers. It's good that you can realize you are doing it. Not everybody does.
You've managed to communicate your ideas in a very beautiful way.
Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you for reading,
I wish I had figured this out a long time ago. All that was ever needed was a frame - which is the outline of everything they learned from me and other significant adults.

F,

Really good points, all. These are hard lessons to learn and it takes a mature person to a.) understand them, and b.) stick to them. But doing so will save everyone in your family grief and heartache.

Each person has the right to create their own issues, triumphs and disasters. *smile* We learn most FROM the disasters we create, unfortunately. If we are constantly bailed out - we learn de nada.

Thanks for sharing. Good luck!

    Thanks for reading,
It does take maturity to see this. I see it crystal clear now and feel much regret. However, I also feel resolved to step back. My adult children need to get me out of the way to grow and learn what they need.
