This is a gorgeous very simple poem with a very important message. I am in my 60s now and look back with great nostalgia at the way life used to be and the way most people used to treat each other. As you said, everyone needs compassion. I see less and less of it.
This well-written, moving poem makes effective use of specific details to contrast yesteryear with today. I remember a time when a really bad or dishonest person stood out simply because he/she was UNUSUAL!
Thank you, Jaybird, for expressing so eloquently what this nation needs to hear! We are so in need of God's perspective on morality, honesty and compassion.
May you be blessed this Christmas with you and your family. And Happy Birthday in advance!
My dear 95 five years young poet, I am so very pleased with reading your poem, "Caring and Sharing"! The words are clear, the message precise and every leader should read, memorize and retell this poem every day. It is the type of change needed to fix what is wrong out in the world, best regards, from a seventy year young resident of the foothills of the Blue Ridge, in western NC
A very well-written poem about finding someone who are caring for others become something very rare in our modern era. When we do find someone who still have old time values we must hold on to them for dear life.
I enjoyed your poem, Jay. It is a good one for this time of the year. Hopefully, the words will spark others to act and continue throughout the new year. Good job with the rhymes, the smooth flow, and most of all your message. Thanks for sharing. Respectfully, Jan
