This is your best of the best I have had the privilege of reading.
The atmosphere of the Irish bar, the typical patrons, lost in memories of past glories modified and improved by today's booze. I have a clear picture of McGreedy himself, grizzled, stout, with large, strong hands. Tommy's sordid past made him the quintessential character for this tale.
You always insert that little twist that never fails to catch me by surprise and this one had just the right touch of pathos that authenticated your story and raised it to a new level.
I am impressed!

Holy cow this is a great write. Feels so authentic. Was so amusing and captivated me instantly. That takes a special talent. I've been away for awhile but glad to find you're still here and have lost none of your shine :) More polished than ever. I hope this becomes a book, I want to read it.

Thanks for the terrific review, Minglement. I'm glad you've returned.
Someday I hope to write a book, but, for now, I'm enjoying the freedom of short stories. Thanks again. Peace, Lee

Ah - you might have great success with a book of your beautifully crafted short stories in an anthology. I published one with short stories and poems. Congrats on all your successes here in 2019! Take care :)

Hmmm, Lee, a very sensible ending to an exremely difficult topic and issue. As usual, it's a clever writing, full of humour about a theme and topic that is not humorous at all. A joy to read. Ulla;)))

Thank you, Ulla. I always have fun injecting sardonic humor where it doesn't belong. I hope you had a great New Year celebration.
    Thanks again. Peace, Lee

I had a great time over Christmas and New year, visiting my family in Denmark. Later in the year, I'm going to visit my family in MA. I hope you had a good time as well. :)))

I think this is a well told and interesting story.
It tells of a cop who is called to visit an old 'friend'?
Well done. Thank you for sharing this one with us.
Happy New Year.

"Ms Greedy's Bar"
this was an interesting piece as I read it and review that I could not find any problems with the wording or grammar.
It also red and flowed very well.
Adjective and Objective Contents were both Excellent and Exceptional.
Happy New Year!

This is an excellent story, told in the good old way. I sort of understood that the released convict was the biological Father of the policeman, but maybe I misunderstood or misinterpreted that.
My favourite line was "more pierced holes than a cribbage board". Those words just rolled around in my mouth like marbles.

Another great job with characterization and well paced dialog delivering the meat of the story. Good descriptive narrative too. Some witty lines as well (as usual) and fine sentence mechanics. Plot is on the thin side but it doesn't matter a whit!

Just noticed one spag;

Aye! As soon as the Pope does the can-can at Radio City, (NO COMMA) an' cops stop takin' me bribes."

BRILLIANT:
my self-esteem sprang more leaks than a Senate investigation.

FINE PERSONIFICATION:
Told you so, cried my instincts.

UNIQUE DESCRIPTIVE:

more pierced holes than a cribbage board. Mutilation meets decoration.

Excellent 'book-ending' with the dark bar scene opening and closing the story.

Strong work.

Warmly,
rd

Thanks so much, rd. Yes, the plot is thin, but the current crop of FS readers has little patience for plot development. I've tried to adjust.
Anyway, thanks so much for catching all the hooks I tried to leave. Thanks again.

    Peace, Lee

You had me hooked when I saw the title. You have some interesting
conversations and humorous comments.....never been fond of green hair...
more holes than a cribbage board......don't bet your bacon on it.

When I saw the prompt for flash fiction that takes place in a bar late at night, my first thought was, "I can't wait to see what Lee does with this."
But I don't see McGreedy's Bar listed in that contest. That means you will give us two tavern stories to enjoy. Right? No pressure, but I am looking ever so forward to it.
This story deserves six stars just for the title alone. That is so clever, even though your bar owner doesn't appear greedy at all. Eb is understanding in the extreme. And wise. And, your description of the bar as a quintessential black hole is magnificent.
I will await your next tavern story.
