It's a well laid out essay, and backed up by some pertinent quotes from the bible, so I understand what you are saying in that salvation is a free gift from the Savior and not dependent on works. But Jesus also said: "Pick up your cross and follow me" implying that you must die to your self, your id and ego, in order to truly enter a relationship with God. estory

It is well to see the distinction between being a SON of God (via the new birth) and a SERVANT of God. Mixing those two positions up has been the bane of a true understanding of the Bible. Nicodemus was THE teacher in Israel, yet he hadn't been born again.
Yes, every Christian is called to serve but no one ever became a Christian by serving. If such were possible, than Christ's death for sinners becomes superfluous. Thanks for reading and commenting, Dennis

Christ's death is about paying the debt we could not pay. The devil demanded the death of Christ for our souls. But no-one can truly claim to be in Christ without dying first to himself. This is what Paul meant when he said the church must submit as a wife submits to her husband. estory

But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
    Romans 3:21-26=NKJV

God?s righteousness demanded the death of the sinner and had no reference to Satan.
Grace paid the sinner?s debt completely once and for all and gave believers a new life in Christ forever.

We are saved to serve but our serving has nothing to do with the atonement Christ made and of which He said, ?It is finished!?

A very busy heartfelt poem about salvation. We have to have faith in Jesus Christ and tell others about His salvation plan for one and all. He also make provision for the ones who wake up in the last hour. It is better to work for salvation we cannot guarantee to have a change in the last hour.

While I appreciate you reading my work and commenting, I seem to see you advocating for a dependence on our own works to be saved after all. While it's true God calls us to good works as Christians, we must never believe such good works are part our being saved from sin in the first place.

Only Christ could save us and He has done that forever as soon as we believe. Romans:11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

And please consider Jesus own words:John 5:24 King James Version (KJV)
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

So according to Christ, we believers in Him already possess eternal life! This gives us the joy of the Lord to serve the Lord.
    God bless, Dennis

Thank you for sharing this compelling discussion backed up with scripture that clearly points us in the right direction. I will share this with my husband. He teaches a Sunday School class and while we have covered these scriptures before, I don't think he has ever posed this question.

Always appreciate your wisdom.

Blessings
Janet

I read this, and as I did, I was silently agreeing with everything you have said. Those who preach about what we must and must not do or we won't get into God's house, are only interested in scaring the daylights out of people. God didn't send His son to die for that! You wrote this beautifully, and it was such a pleasure to read. :)) Sandra xx

As a Christian, I can say, bravo to you for this piece of writing. You did an excellent job with your explanation of what it takes to accept God's gift to us. Great job. Shirley

It is free, I know because I asked and received this marvelous gift of salvation. We live in a culture where things always sound too good to be true. This one thing defies all human logic. It is by faith and faith alone we receive this salvation in Christ. Sending you my best today as always, my brother,
Sal xo

I read your story carefully and I agree with you: to go in God's kingdom is a constant conduit. You don't need to check a list, if we think about the thieves that were killed in the same day with Jesus, they went to Heaven because they believed.

Well, one of them went for sure. Good example of being saved by grace, since the thief was dying and could hardly promise to good for the rest of his life, or be baptized, join a church, become a minister, etc., etc. All he could do was trust Christ. He did and that was enough to save him forever.

This is a very well written post about whether salvation is really free or not. You used very good descriptive words. How can we say it is free if Jesus had to pay such an awful price to cover our sins. And it is by the grace of God, not anything we can do on our own. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, Teri

Good point! Salvation is free to us but cost God His Son.

This is well written and I can you've thought this thoroughly. I think most people yo-yo back and forth by accepting the simplicity and then reading other scripture that makes them wonder how anyone like themselves who still has such a sinful nature could be a entrance into a perfect heaven.

Nicely written.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. And I think you bring up a good point showing why people doubt because we do see the presence of sin in our lives. Paul deals with this fact in Romans 7+8 and how to deal with it by the power of the Spirit within every born again believer. I am thinking of writing on this subject as a follow up to this article. Thanks again, Dennis
