If only! It sounds like a plan but its easier said then done. I used to think that as i grew older, my problems would lessen....not true. I like your poem though and it's hopeful tone.

I certainly agree with your premise: If we can rid ourselves of doubt and fear we should have a more meaningful life. In your poem you show how this has happened in your life. Older and wiser is now your territory from experience.
A correction:
The many things I say or do
has (have) set me free from life of strife. (because it is plural)

I like the rhyme pattern of this poem. It also has an excellent message that more people need to take to heart. We have a tendency to doubt ourselves and if we learn to not doubt, life will have more meaning.

This is a very well written poem you have penned about things in your life. You used great descriptive words and very nice imagery from your words. I agree with your statement - If we can rid ourselves of doubt and fear, we should have a more meaningful life. Thanks for sharing. May God bless you! Teri

Love the message. Fear and doubt are indeed millstones around our neck. If I may, I'd like to make a small suggestion. In the final line of verse one, I think the flow and meter would be improved if you removed 'of life' and left it; 'And set me free of strife.' Just my thought.

I can surely relate to your poem Jay, Although a youngster compared to yourself, I have travelled long and far in my 90 years. From Japan to England, the Med and over a great deal of North America, and now, retired to a sleepy rural area in Ontario, Canada, I can reflect - with my dear wife of 65 years and a cache of photos, on places seen, folks met and the many aspects of life I've witnessed. Some good, some bad and some barely remembered. Poetry has played a big part - still does - throughout my life, and Rhyming has always been front and centre. Could flood the site with my writings, but very happy with reading others' works as I am of putting mine before the Membership. Even travelled through Ky at one stage - many years ago now. Feel I've lived and enjoyed the best years this tired old world has ever experienced! Keep writing and have a great day. Ciao for now. Rhymer aka Denis.

This is a beautiful, uplifting poem. When I become anxious--sometimes exaggeratedly so!--I have to pray a LOT. if I don't, I just get worse and worse.

another lovely sonnet--simple in message but as always from the heart--I am delighted that you continue to write these days--your poems are always a pleasure to read as they provoke good thoughts, kind memories, and gentle lessons on life

All the Best
Phil

Hello Jay, this is a well written poem that many will be able to identify with. As we get older we become less inhibited - we do not worry too much about what we say or do. There are more important things in life. Your rhyme is good and I like this honest write. Tiny typo ' then yesteryear,' - than yesteryear. A good poem and an honest read. Warm regards Dorothy x
