Hi Mark
I enjoyed your Haiku. Winter is all about survival. This time of year, the animals are getting tired of searching for vittles. Many are starving, especially the deer. We have a lot of frozen snow these days. And deer have to scrape at it to find stale straw.
I like the alliteration of "s" in,
"surround the snow-capped mountains ~
squirrels scrounge"
Perfect nature scene for this time of year!
Cheers
Kimbob

    KimBob,

    As an amateur poet who is forever learning the skill of composing 5-7-5s, I am greatly encouraged by your review comments and suggestions. I do my best to slip in those letter-sound alliterations whenever I can (-;

    THANKS!

    Mark

Yes squirrels hide their nuts during the spring and summer but then they forget where they've hidden them! Ha ha ha, they need a good memory to survive! I enjoyed your nature write Mark, love Dolly x

    Thanks Dolly for your continual endorsement of my short verse style. The squirrel's forgetfulness has a bonus - (oak) trees eventually sprout from their hidden cache (-;

Naww, I love little squirrels and wish we had them in Australia. My partner has always wanted one for a pet, but we "make do" with our dog and three cats lol! This was such a sweet, cute Haiku, nicely complemented by the pic as well. Thanks for sharing something innocent and natural with us today!

    Thanks Gypsy for your endorsement of this post. Your country has those very cute and unusual varmints to deal with, which are only unique to Australia.

    My backyard is full of those squirrels. We watch them play in all seasons.

    P.S. This 5-7-5 format is my go-to style. Longer verses are never in my poetry wheelhouse (-;
