I enjoyed your rhythmic, rhymed quatrains about the benefits of being an early riser. I liked the cheerful picture you selected and your focus on the positive and hopeful conclusion. Best wishes in the contest- Joan

Dear Patty, You must love getting up early, ahead of everyone else! It gives you some time to yourself, and we should be happy to get up in the morning, lucky to be alive, instead of dragging ourselves out of bed with dread of the day, the way a lot of people do. Good luck in the contest. Dove

I like this - it's (mostly) sweet and paints a delightful picture and the rhyme scheme lends itself well to the topic.
My only issue is with the genre - I wouldn't consider this children's poetry - with the mention of drinking coffee and raging violence (also why I parenthesized 'mostly').
The imagery is well drawn out - good luck!

Karen, thank you for the very nice review and nice comments. About the genre. I didn't mark it for children. I marked it for family. Somehow it got moved. I went in an fixed it.

    God bless!

I these days, one realises the source of life Himself, gives His hope, His faith, His endurance to take us through each day, and appreciate that life is a gift to be spent wisely. Beautifully written Patty. I thank you for this lovely theme, a skilful application, and articulate, rhyming and flow. And good morning, Blessings, Roy

Someone truly enjoys mornings. You have described your morning routine so well we can SEE you on the deck sipping coffee and feeding the kittens as the day drifts by. You and I have the same reaction to reading the paper. Rod

I think this is a good entry for the Rhyming Poetry contest.
This well rhymed verse tells of the joy of arising early and enjoying the morning.
Well done and I wish you good luck with the contest.
Sharon

Patty, I love this poem you have penned about waking up early and what you can see and hear just being up. You used great descriptive words. I love the stanza about the little cats meowing and the runt being helped. Beautiful imagery too. Thanks for sharing. love and blessings, Teri

Thanks, Teri! I was sitting here looking through contests and i had forgotten that I had reserved a spot on this one. So, I whipped this up in like ten minutes! The inspiration for the poem came from what I was doing at the moment, sitting on the deck drinking my coffee and watching the squirrels running up and down the trees after each other!
