Great poem about a horse and his father. Thanks for the note about your own father and the roles of Blaze and Sam. I don't often hear the word "galoot," but it's a great word. You even got Sam's mum into the poem! Is that an actual picture of Sam? Beautiful horse.

Hey! I wrote to you, worried about NY hotspot for Corona 19. No, not an actual picture, too long ago. I am writing the full story soon, all happened when I was 10! Are you OK? Love, Kay.

Hello Kay my dear Aussie Mate, sorry if I missed your correspondence, I will look for it when I have some time.
Yes! We are in the center of the center of the hotspot here. Elmhurst Hospital, carrying the biggest load of Covid-19 patients, is in walking distance from my home. So awful, 500 died yesterday in NY.
Yes, I was sick with it too, but I am thankful to God that I got through it without needing any special care. I tested positive and had some very uncomfortable symptoms, with fevers. My husband Jorge also was sick, but not for very long, and not as sick as I was. By the time he got sick, they wouldn't test him, because they were only testing the sickest patients. We're both doing much better. Thank you so much for your concern. Stay well and God be with you! - Mary Kay xoxo

Are you both in total isolation at home? I was worried because NY was the epicentre. Love, Kay.

reply by Mary Kay Bonfante on 04-Apr-2020
We are mostly in isolation, but my husband goes out to buy things, sometimes. They recommend that we wear face coverings if we go out, and if the police see people gathering in groups, they'll break it up. One or two people walking alone will not be bothered.
It is very strange because life as usual has completely changed. It's like our society has turned upside down. I can go out if I want to, but I would rather wait a few more days, a full two weeks since my fever ended. The good news is that now I will be resistant to the virus, and I won't be able to give it to anyone, either. So I will be stronger.
Even though it's not complete isolation, it's not a normal existence and quite honestly it's just weird. I'm grateful that I have my husband. It must be very hard for those who live alone, during these times. I do get depressed sometimes, but I always did. I have to pray and count my blessings. You are one of them, my friend! Be well. Love, Mary Kay

Your poem is moving and vividly descriptive, conveying an appealing message about the power of respect between man and animal and the passing on of characteristics.

I love those big old work horses. I have found them to be gentle and loving creatures. It always amazes me how horses love people and want to be with us. Sounds like your dad had a couple of special ones.

I enjoyed reading this piece. It speaks well of the majesty of the animal. Horses are amazingly beautiful creatures and a great deal of fun to observe. Love the artwork chosen here. Thank you for sharing this.

Hello Kace, this is a lovely personal story and you tell it simply and well. Shire horses are lovely animals and made for work. It must be so sad when an animal like Blaze dies - your Dad must have been very close to him. But he mated beforehand and Sam replaced him. A good poem, moving, and I enjoyed the read. Love Dorothy xx

Your dad really loved much Sam, the only son of a beautiful shire horse Blaze as he was proud of Sam for his sound physique and committed service; well said.

Just lovely. I enjoyed this well rhymed poem. I like how it portrays a story of hardworking man, horse and its offspring. It is a nicely descriptive read - Coat of roan shining in sun, Your daddy had feet like dinner plates - giving a more personal feel to the story. Thank you for also sharing your author's notes. All very much enjoyed. ~DDx

This is so sweet...I have always loved horses and was able to get my first one when I was eighteen. They are special animals and you have brought that out very well through sharing your memories with us of Blaze and his son, Sam. I have never seen a Shire...but I did see the Budweiser Clydesdale horses when I used to live in St. Louis. :-)
