Mark,

hahahahaha I think you make a very valid point, dear brother, O brother. I'm sorry to say he would be long gone and quite cold even if he had lasted another fifty years. A disturbing but true way of looking at things.

I love the way you always look at things at a slightly different angle. Thanks for that. And I'm sorry to be so far behind in my reading.

--sigh--

BTW, I would like you to go to the following website to consider sending in some of your pieces, particularly Richard Cory's Daughter - though I know that's not the title... couldn't remember it right off.

Thanks, buddy!

Oh for sure. Too late to cry over spilt milk after all that time, uh? Lol! Yeah, I liked it. Very pithy! Lol! I think that's what I mean to say. Staying cool, Mark? Keep writing the funny ones.

Short and um, not sure what tongue in cheek or
the hand of the Master. Any way it's so you!
Been out of action with a broken wrist and upper-arm

Mark,
This poem is true of anyone who dies young. Whenever they die, it was probably their time anyway. It is just our way of saying this person shall be missed when we say they died too young.
Keep writing and stay safe and healthy.
Joan

Thanks Joan. You're right about the poem being true of anyone who dies young. I actually wrote this poem first and then thought of someone to apply it to after the fact.

Thanks - glad the humor came through. I'm afraid some folks thought this a serious lament of Alexander Hamilton.

As a Brit I suppose I can be forgiven for not being aware of this gullible fellow. So I looked him up, and found out that he had found a load of things that weren't even aware of being lost. This bastard (he really was one and not merely deserving of the title being a banker) was taken in by a rich merchant (which is why I refer to him as gullible). The merchant probably traded in scams, the biggest being the United States because they were not very united in those days, some of them thought they were feral - oops sorry - I meant federal.

Perhaps it is just as well he is dead as you allege or is that a piece of fake news?

This was a fun ditty that i believed was deserving of a fun review.

Here in the states, Mr. Hamilton has gone from being relatively obscure to posthumously attaining superstar status thanks to the record-setting Broadway musical about him. No matter, the poem wasn't really about him anyway - I wrote it first and then looked for someone to retrofit it to.

LOL A humorous, yet matter of fact conclusion about an important historical figure that many feel was taken in his prime . In spite of his short time here he certainly worked long and hard and from what I read, he left some big boots to fill. Yes, he is surely a pile of dust now haha
Well done. You made your Mark with this one LOL
Some six coming your way.

Thanks for this spate of reviews that I find in my box. Very appreciative that you took the time to read all of these. This one has very little to do with Alexander Hamilton - I wrote the poem and needed to attach it to someone who died young and died a long time ago.
Btw, congrats on your (well-deserved) Poem of the Month nomination. I don't think it will win though, because you focused too much on things like rhyme, meter, language -- you know, writing. What you want to do is mention how much you love Jesus and that you support the troops - doesn't hurt to exhort readers to "Remember 911". Here's a 5-7-5 that I wrote for whenever the next contest is -- It's called "Where's My Prize?":

    Jesus is my friend
He is with me til the end
    I support the troops.

reply by closetpoetjester on 04-Apr-2020
LOL Of course it won't win, YOU have an entry!!

BTW I think that Jesus poem was your best work mate LMAO
You need to put that one on the back burner for the next comp, maybe change the title though. Some may think you are just trying to post any old crap to get a prize LOL

    Great short poem though.
I sometimes start out with a punchline and then have to back engineer a darn poem for it, just so I can use it. I hate letting words go to waste. When you said you already had the poem and just needed to tie someone too it, that made me think we both think similarly and perhaps way too much LOL

Very true Mark, and it is something that can and often is said about many. With few exceptions it's the fact of "death" and one echoed by many of us. More so of things we feel we should have done, even as we pass over! The mind boggles at what this world - bad as it is today - would be like were we able to stay off our demise, until we've put 'right' things we never did when we had the chance? That would swell the holier than thou brigade no doubt! Lol. A succinct sum up of the 'truth' of life. I've decided at my time of life - 90 - it would be a waste of my last days, were I to try and rectify all I have done wrong! My day of reckoning will no doubt - be soon - then I will join the queue of those others who had the same thoughts! A fatalist me. Ciao for now and have a great day. Denis.

Hello Mark
This is uber-clever. My first reaction was that I must have read it somewhere before, because it is so smooth that I cannot believe 'someone' else has not already written this.
Of course, this is just envy on my part. I wish I'd written it.
This is a memorable piece. Thank you.
I wish you well with your continued writing.
cheers
phill

Thanks Phill. I sort of had the same reaction - it's so brief and trite it seems like it must hve been written before - I hope it hasn't.
