What a wonderful memory. Your narration is well done as it creates both a sense of place and drama. I can feel the excitement and anticipation as you wait in the cold for this family feast. Too bad it is a thing of the past, but what a great memory.
Best of luck in the contest. I hope you do well.

This brings back some very good memories because my cousin in Florida had two shrimp boats. I loved going out at night and trolling the Gulf of Mexico seabed and bringing up the catch--which was dumped on a sorting table so that we could pick out the starfish, baby flounder, seahorses, etc. and toss them back into the water. It was a very long time ago, but the experience remains strong in my mind's cache of enjoyed situations. :-)

Our prawns are nothing like the titchy shrimps, either! I can just imagine this as you have described it well, Kay. There is nothing nicer than eating your own freshly cooked prawns. I enjoyed reading your story and your author's notes. Well done and good luck in the contest. :) Sandra xx

Hello again! Thanks so much for gnawing on a prawn! Aussies have seawater in their veins. So expensive to buy now. Maybe 15 pounds (or $30 Kilo) a delicacy we export. Much love, Kay.

Hello Kace, lovely story - catching prawns, self caught and cooking them. Fresh prawns were plentiful back then you say. I wonder what the situation is now. I read your author notes, so interesting - holidaying in Sussex Inlet, the best years of your life. Lovely. Good Luck in the contest. Love Dorothy xxx

Hello again! Thank you Dorothy, the Inlet has been fished out. Much of our seafood is exported. To buy king prawns is extravagant nowadays $30 Kilo! Much love, Kay.

Your flash nonfiction narrative piece is well-written and succinct, telling your story without wasting any words. The plan for catching and cooking the prawns is well told.

Your poem made an interesting read. The child-hood memory keeps us alive especially when they were eventful. Thanks for sharing, wishing I could have a taste of the seafood.
