The love weeps from this poem. If I had any comments, it would be I found the Aussie expressions confusing in referring to a father. "Mate" in particular. But once I thought it through, it made perfect sense. How precious

When these days came around, it can be so hard for people who have lost their parents. I thought this was a really well written piece. You managed to convey a lot about your dad in your writing, including his experience in the war. I enjoyed reading it. Good luck in the contest.

What a wonderful tribute to your father, Aussie. I like that you said that your life with him was a learning curve for both of you. Those words hone in the fact that the two of you went through life together. It implies more of a sharing relationship. Father's Day is hard for me as well. I wish so badly that my own dad could come back. I have so many things that I would like to say.
Thank you for sharing your dad with us.

Hi Debbie, thanks so much for reading. Even tho' they are not here, I believe they still look over our shoulder and help us when we need them. Blessings, Kay.

I agree with you here, too. I have always felt his presence.

I am a 'sensitive' and have been since I was ten years old. When my dad is around, I smell potato's cooking, my mum was a hairdresser, she had a dreadful calling card - perm solution from the fifties! She actually permed my hair when I was four and I have the BW photo to prove it! :-) XX

This one had me curious about a "sensitive." I found a great article, and I think that I am one as well. I know that my daughter is. I sent her the link to the article. There was an embedded line on things that sensitive people absolutely need to be happy.
You might enjoy reading it. It's https://highlysensitiverefuge.com/highly-sensitive-person-signs/

Thanks for the link Debbie, I will have a bo-peep. Sensitive is a calm word for psychic. Like, I know what you are going to say before you say it. I can know your feelings miles away etc. It started in my life when I was 10. :-) XX

I visited the site you gave to me. I have signed up for their newsletter. It isn't easy being a sensitive; we are here to help and support people, that is our purpose, it is also a lonely life when people don't understand us. Love, Kay XX

I totally agree with everything that you said. You have special needs that others don't have. It makes everything harder. I have felt it myself and seen it with my daughter growing up.
I'm glad that you like the link I sent. I thought that it was remarkable.

reply by Debbie Pope on 11-Jun-2020
Well, I think that I misunderstood. I like the site that I went to though. It was more appropriate for my behavior and that of my daughter. Someone did a poem in the last few weeks about a type of hypersensitivity where you smell things and see things that others don't. Sort of like a few cases where people have been struck by lightening. There is a name for it, which I have been trying to remember for you. You should connect up with this FanStory member. I just thought--I'll look back at my reviews.

I found the poem. It is "What is Synesthesia?"
    by Cindy Decker
Did you happen to read that?

May your fondest wish come true, Aussi! This whole father's day poem speaks of your love for him. He was your mate for so many years. I adored my father too, I had such a happy childhood! I know how you must miss him.
Lovely poem, Aussi!

You said a blonde gnome and then you had no hair? You have a nice emotional piece here. I don't know how that feels to have such a great dad. You are lucky.

I liked the structure and composition.

I empathized with the loss of a father
I felt the loss even further of the loss to death.

The message of the poem is clear.

A very well-written poem about honoring our fathers on father's day, and every day, they play an important role in our lives and when they are not nearby we miss them dearly.
