I enjoyed reading this poem. Yes this world has survived many terrible things. It seems worse today than every before. It isn't a time to give up and jump off a bridge. It many not seem like it but we are survivors and I'm not sure which is worse, the virus, the riots, or Donald Trump but hopefully, God won't allow any of those things to destroy this nation.
I enjoyed reading your poem. My favourite stanza is the final one, leaving the ultimate challenge to your country's survival to the end. "We'll survive even Donald Trump." Brilliant. He makes even polio look pretty mild in comparison.
Well we have only have 5 or 6 months to know if we will survive President Trump. Hopefully he will be voted out of office. This poem shows all the things the U.S. and the world has weathered and made it through. I hope not many are contemplating suicide because of this. And if they do they make the same decision as the speaker.
Keep writng and stay healthy.
The thing that makes this so wonderful is your age. You have seen so much and been through so much and you started this poem out with a very serious note and then at the very end, there was a jab of humor. You haven't missed a step. I think that this is an excellent poem with its perfect rhymes and meter. The humor was great! Well done. -January L.
One of the most disturbing thought we have to face is that after his time in office is over we will have to refer to him as President Trump. It is a title he has won the right to. Just like George Washington to Barack Obama, every former president has the right to be referred to as president whomever. What a shame.
I share your optimism, yes of course we will survive. I do hope your poem was just writers imagination. Although some may be driven to jump by president Trump. This is a nasty old virus of which we know little yet. I wish you well. ~Mel~
Indeed my friend, these are challeging times and yes, we shall overcome; there's always light at the end of the tunnel, come November, things will change; wonderful poem in excellent rhymes; thanks for sharing.
LOL, I love your humour here, Jay. Trump is a salesman and he will do whatever it takes to get that sale. Personally I don't believe he is the source of the problem though. I lay that dubious honour straight on the shoulders of that horrid, little man, Mitch McConnell. He is playing a filthy long game and has been doing so for decades. Trump is just the battering ram in my view.
Excellent post and it did bring a smile with the power of the Donald to keep you away from jumping. :)
Oh, political humor at its best, and I did not see it coming. We have survived many presidents in a row - I can't think of one that has stood out in a long time. But, back to the poem - We survived. Yes. And we will continue to do so.
