This really hit home to me. My son went through the same about your age at the time, he was so gifted, I had him taught by a college professor at his home each weekend. He later in life became a graphic artist creating many Casino advertisements in Las Vegas and RENO.
I love reading your write it is so refreshing with memories I can relate to.
Are you still doing art?

Thank you so much for the review. I've not painted anything in a couple of years. When my husband got sick, I gave him all my attention. After he died, I was into photography and genealogy for a while and now I starting to write again. I will get back into art eventually. Things seem to go in cycles with me.

Awe, Beth, so true. What if. But at least you knew from a very early age that you wanted to become an artist. And here you are at last, writing, and doing so very well if I may say so. Good luck in the contest with this little gem. Ulla:)))

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I enjoyed the work as an artist but I like writing and photography so I don't perfect any of my hobbies. What happened to your story? I was reading it and had to get a phone call and when I came back it had disappeared

reply by Ulla on 13-Jun-2020
It's coming. I was editing and something happened and it was released before I was ready. I'm working on it. I may release it in a little while. Sorry about that. Ulla:)))

reply by the author on 13-Jun-2020
The same thing happened to me. I was getting comment and I hadn't ever released it.

reply by Ulla on 13-Jun-2020
No, it's very frustrating. But I'm about to be ready too let it go. I normally wait until Sunday, but I'm busy tomorrow having a couple of friends for a meal for the first time in three months. They live in the same valley as I do and we have no cases here. What a time we live in!!!

What a cute story. It's a well-written very interesting piece on your humble beginnings as an artist. I strongly believe this is the path you're supposed to take. What's more important is that you enjoyed your journey along the way. Good luck with your contest.

What a fascinating story is told here of a talented child finding a way to express her natural artistic ability - that famous quote 'Artists are born not made..'Louise Bourgeois springs to mind - how I wish I had a 6 to award here - such an enjoyable read

Wonderful story--you may have a winner. Love the closer! What a sly one you were to contrive to drop the drawing and thus be recruited for the contest (and to get out of chores). Scary/funny re the lead paint(typo: those early paintingS were...) Cheers. LIZ

Thanks so much for the review and comments. I'm afraid I was very devious as a child, going to such links to entrap the librarian. That is the one trait my husband felt I need to lose. It was still very much a part of me when I got married. I think it gradually disappeared.

What a wonderful history of developing your artistic bent. Why don't you think of yourself as multi-talented? You do have a gift of writing too.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I think I have talents in several directions. but the problem is I never develop any of them to their full potential. I love to write right now. but from 2013 until this January, I never wrote one thing. My interests tend to go and come. It has been along time since I painted. During those years last few years, I was on a photography kick.

A great ending that reminds me of the time when my sixth grade teacher had me read my A+ essay out loud and then said, "I think Shari's going to be the writer of the class."
Up to then, I don't remember serious attempts at this. It was the first time anyone except my parents praised me. From then on, I wrote stories for school magazines and outside contests. All it takes is one person to notice. Great story Beth.

Thank you so much. We all need a little praise to boost our self confidence and set us on a path to succeed. I did some writing in school too. I might have been better off if I concentrated more in that direction. I once wrote three or four poems and chose one to enter in a contest. I gave the other three to fiends. One of the ones I gave away won first prize. I guess I'm not a good judge. Lol.

Oh yes indeed, I preferred sport to anything, but I never knew I could write until I was in my forties, and usually thought that was tied up with music, I learnt to guitar at the same time, I could always sing, but in Australia, male singers are thought of as a little effeminate, so sport and singing didn't mix as a male thing, like you, who knows my life may have taken a different path. But God has a plan, artistic ability usually stretches to more than one area. I was fascinated by this Beth. Well done, blessings Roy
Typo : When I was (was) about twelve.

This was a great chapter. A totally enjoyable read. Maybe I should get your help with my book covers? A couple of spags this time. I'm amazed I'm still around [with]

Thank you for the review and comments and help. This isn't part of my book. This is a story for the "Tell you story" contest. You should write one too. Thanks for seeing the spags.

Thank you for sharing how you became an artist! I don't think someone without talent could have the passion you had as a young girl. It sounds like you couldn't stay away from art and that says that you have that calling. Plus, your art continued in your photography and now in your writing. Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I like to think I had some talent. I do enjoy writing and photography now more than painting. I think I don't like having to clean up after myself. Yes scowling was exactly what my spell checker didn't recognize what I was trying to spell. LOL
