I often wonder of the little things our parents or other loved ones do occur to them to be important "life markers" for those around them. Such a simple thing...to plant a tree. Your husband likely didn't think of it then as a metaphor for life...how he and the tree would grow...how his child or children would branch from the solid tree and reach toward the sky...how his son would repeat this memory in a eulogy that breaks MY heart--and I didn't have the pleasure of knowing him!--Karenina

I felt your poem is my heartful of memories of my own parents... Wish I'd said thank you more while they were still with me.--Karenina

Oh, I can relate to this so well. My late mother was a true gardener at heart. She grew a lot of flowers and plants and all remind me of her. Trees and plants have a soul of their own, and they remember who was kind to them.

Good luck in the contest. Thanks for sharing a loving memory of your father.

What a very inspirational story behind this poem, Ralf. I can envision this tree somehow and you touching it with him in mind.

"Each time I touch its branches
I feel his soft kiss."

How sweet. :) Bob

It's hard to believe you were able to pack so much emotion into a 5-7-5 poem that you did. I think we all have something we do to remember loved ones that have passed on, this was a good one. Good luck in the contest.

"My Father's Tree", is short, succinct and delightfully heart-warming. It was a privilege to both read and review this talented poet's work. To me, this is definitely a six.

A deep thought being a farmer I do acknowledge the love planted along side the things we attempt to grow from land. I found this statement captivating to my interests well said in my stated opinion.

Just so beautiful.
I love the picture. The Maple tree
is my favorite.
My father grew a magnolia tree, but died
before he saw the first bloom.
Just lovely,
blessings...

That is so wonderful to have that connection. Nature is giving him a way to grieve, to connect. It just shows we humans and nature can live and relate to one another.

Tis a most heartfelt and beautiful piece you have written, author. A growing tree such a lovely thing for your son to hug in remembrance of his deceased father.

A beautiful verse and fine entry into the tree hugger contest. Wishing you much luck in the voting booth.

Gloria
