You are obviously a big horse lover and we often tame our horses so that they don't behave in a wild manner and they can be trained so well because they are so intelligent. But in the wild they instinctively protect their own, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

A neat poem! The details are vivid, I could picture the story as it progressed.
'Heavy snow littered the ground'... good line.

A very well-writtenpoem about wild horses that are running free until they get captured to be tamed and used by man for their purpose using them to run in races or riding.

I worked for the Boy Scouts on a Quarter Horse ranch for four summers. One of the most enjoyable times in my life. What a wonderfully written poem. Please consider putting your next poem in a contest on Fanstory. Best of luck with your writing!

Have a great day and God bless.

Lovely poem and I just love the rhyme from the last stanza, it's s so playful;"
The High Country riders had a beer
All friends at Old Regret
Lifted Jimmy with a cheer
One-hundred pounds to get" Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

I have never run into any of your work before. You have a very interesting way of presenting your content. It makes for a very good read. I really enjoyed this post as I re-read it after reading your explanation at the end. Very well put. Great job.

I always enjoy reading poems about horses and this is definitely a horse story in poetic form. "Jimmy rode his waler down the drift" is a line that opens a verse that is vivid and the reader can see the rider and colt. Excellent poetic form and a smooth flow of rhyming words.

This well flowing poem sets the scene of wild horses in some kind of race, very well with the imagery produced with your well chosen words. The hero comes through well.

You knew I would love this. :-) If it were possible, I would travel west for a while and try to spot some of our mustangs. I have loved horses all my life and I am so glad that you write about them from time to time. I would especially love to see a brumbie. Smiles, Janet

Hi Janet, Thanks so much for reading. We have so many brumbies, they have to be culled from time to time. Have a look on line. Love, Kay.

Beautiful theme for this great poem. Horses. I love them. They are such intelligent, beautiful animals, moving with such grace and strength. This picture shows them to perfection. Their mating dance...compelling!
The breeding of prize-horses, I know very little of that. This poem gives me an idea of this world.
