Bet, I thought I was following you, but I don't remember seeing this incredible story at all. Blending all of this biography with the tornado and the connection to the devices memory properties is amazing. So glad that your daughter is safe in both her long term health and this disaster she lived through.

Tornado's seem so scary to me even though we live in an area where we can get Cyclones. My husband had a pacemaker/with defribulator for many years so I enjoyed your daughter's take that she wouldn't get away with murder. A good light-hearted read about a serious situation.

Thanks again for reading one of my stories. Connie hasn't seemed that concerned about the pacemaker. She had to get one so early but I'm glad it is doing the job.

good story and information about the pacemaker. I enjoyed your telling of Connie's health and the tornado. You fit both stories well together.
I think where the story falls short is in two paragraphs that cut the story in half: "to make a long story short" this can be removed. It is good that the family has recovered but it cuts up the story.
"In spite of the fact" can be shortened: "I learned a pacemaker is even more a remarkable instrument" to carry your story forward.
just my opinion only.

Thank you so much for the review and comments and suggestions. I did get a lot of six star reviews without anyone else mentioning that was a problem but I will look into it.

I enjoyed reading this contest entry. I found it very interesting. I know a lot of people who have pacemakers. I never knew they were that accurate. I am sure this contest entry will show well, but just in case, I wish you the very best of luck.

I think that I have read about the information in the FitBit watches being used in a court of law... Somewhat the same premise.

Enjoyed!!

Best of luck in the Non-Fiction Writing Contest.

Once again our worlds are connected by words. There's only one letter difference "l" , I wonder what that significance is. I'll call it learning.
Interesting about your daughter's pacemaker. I was hospitalized last year with a stroke last year and they put in a stent, and later a heart monitor. I don't call it a pacemaker as all it does is monitor and send recordings daily.
I take the whole stroke thing as a warning. Better a warning than a very short chapter.
I only witnessed one correction -
...committing a(n) act...
Have a safe holiday and enjoy each day.
Dick

Thank you for the interesting review and comments. I"m sorry you had a stroke but if the warning is taken seriously maybe you won't have further problems. The medical instruments are amazing and I'm glad they are available in order to keep us ticking longer.

A departure from the reflections of the childhood years! Quite a dramatic piece--again, told in your signature understated style that lets the events speak for themselves. Well done! Cheers. LIZ

I just love how you can take a true story as if you are on the front porch relating it with humility and tenderness, as if each moment it mattered that we listened because each moment we live is a gift. This had a truth about how precious each moment is and how every heart beat matters!

Wow! What great information about the pacemaker and the marvelous date/time recording it keeps! Do you have that same kind of irregular heartbeat? Is yours kept normal just with medication? Fascinating information!

Minor suggestion:
see a recorded record of the exact time (see a record of the irregularities and the exact time) That way you don't have the redundancy of "recorded record."

Thank you for the excellent review and good suggestions. No my irregular heart rate is different but I guess it could he related. My could be fixed by allowing them to go in a cauterize a part of my heart that is triggering and extra beat. However the medicine is doing the job so far. Connie's rhythm is like the lub-lub-lub-dub. if that makes sense. My son has tachycardia so heart problems seems to run in the family.

Dear Beth, of all the interesting things you have written about, over the last several months; this post is one of the most intriguing, because you are focusing on the pacemaker (as was your intention) and how it worked.
As a result, you have written one, very good Non-Fiction story for the contest,
