I enjoyed reading this very much, Ralf. In troubling times, your solution to distress is an excellent one. I love candles and they tend to calm me down, as well. Thank you for sharing this!

This one-hundred-word flash fiction story, When You Light a Candle, seems to tell an allegorical tale of giving the hope of faith to those with none.

Your words have a very powerful message. About each of us has the power to calm the storm and it starts with one of us to light the first "candle" It is very poignant and calming in these turbulent times.
Good luck in the contest.

That scene in the beginning of the animated Mulan always stayed with me: the one where the fires are lit to warn of the enemy's attack. This piece brought that scene to the forefront and showed an even more powerful unity. Thank you for sharing.

One candle, two candles, them more and more grow to build a world of light. It starts with each person, inside. That idea of hope, and connecting. It is a great image of hope, the candle. The light in the darkness. estory

Ralf,

I am not completely exactly sure what you did that calmed others -- but please do a lot more of it. *smile* This world, at the moment, is in great need of some peace, comfort, and calmness!

Thanks and good luck!

Thank you robyn for your lovely review. Whatever we can do to help obliterate the darkness is like lighting a candle. We need each other.

Your contest entry is in good form, Ralf. I enjoyed reading it. I believe this could be applied to more than lighting a candle during a power failure. I see it as showing others the Light of God and them passing it on.
Best wishes.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

That is precisely what it is. There was a movement many years ago in the Roman Catholic Church called, 'You Can Light A Candle'.
Thank you for your lovely review.
