I think I'm a hypochondriac every time I read your articles because I think I might have these disorders. Laugh out loud. I enjoyed this. Honestly, some sounds do trigger me and cause agitation. Blindness really increases this. I've become way over sensitive to many things. Even bad reviews....
Sending you my best today as always,
Sally XOs.....

Thank you so much for the review, Sally! I think many of us react to sounds but you're probably right that your ears are more sensitive to sounds. Hugs!

Mis my phone yeh, Helen. :) This is a good word to know. I never knew there was one and always wondered why people tend to be annoyed about certain sounds. Writing on a blackboard used to get my danruff up, but I got used to it... after writing 100 time, " I must behave in class." :) Thank you for sharing.

I really like this word. I can say that I don't like when people eat their food by smacking their lips. It does bother me, but, since different cultures have different customs, I can deal with those. I have been around many Korean people and other Asian people and I got use to the way they ate. Thanks for sharing this informative and well written work. It brought back memories. Well done!

A really new word to learn, since it was only coined in 2001! I knew about cultural differences like the Koreans' relishing eating with a variety of sounds, but was unaware sufferers of misophobia react negatively to these and other sounds. Sighs- Joan

Thank you so much for reviewing, Joan! And thank you for noting how recently this word was coined. I figured it was just a medical term. Hugs!

A very well-written chapter in the book Word for that. It can be annoying especially when we want to impress some one and one of our family members like to slurp and making sounds while they eat.

That's funny. But that family member would be fine in Korea. 😊 Thanks for review, Sandra!

Good evening to you, Helen.

I didn't realise such a word existed, least of all that I'm obviously a sufferer too of this Misophonia... lol

Eating with your mouth open or slurping, is I think something we all hate in our family and would be hard pressed to keep shtum about it. Your Korean friends I know have a different culture and no doubt a list of social and culinary norms which we may find teasing.

Normal is a stange thing sometimes :)

Your post was fascinating and well written

kind regards

tracey

Thank you so much, Tracey. If you really want to be sure, I included a website which has a test to see if you have it. I think most people have it to some degree - few have it to a debilitating level. Lol.
    Hugs!

How very interesting Helen. I have not heard of Misophonia, but I do have an aversion to noises and cannot abide the arguing on TV. Well written and thoughtful research makes this very enjoyable. :)

That's interesting. I've never heard of the condition although I might be hard pushed to remember 'misphonia'. I don't like noisy eating but it doesn't create a severe reaction thankfully. Enjoy your day. Judy.

Oh I definitely have this phonia. I absolutely hate it when people clap their hands after every word they speak when they are trying to make a point, as if that makes people listen more. Shudder.

What great information and I agree with your point that this could be either an endearing or annoying characteristic of a character in a novel.

Clear, concise and always a pleasure to read your work.

Gloria

Thank you so much for the review, Gloria! Don't you think that most cats suffer from misophonia? Lol. Hugs!
