I disagree. I think you should've entered this in the Faith contest, because it would be a very strong contender. I enjoyed the "history lesson" - I've not heard of Ms Tubman until now, but I consider myself thus educated!
I think you put her story out there with much skill and masterful phrasing, your rhyme was a difficult one to stick to, but you managed that with great aplomb as well.
The only line I had a problem with was the first of your last stanza:
Breathless, starless night, shine yet bright where they her lay
I wondered whether "where she, they lay" might read better? Just a thought!
Overall, this was an engaging poem to read, and very educational as well. Thanks for sharing her story with us!

Yes, good suggestion...its one of those where either can work detracting from nrm of essay English, but you robably would use 'her' as a preference if you think of '''where they lay her''..so could nt use ''where they lay she'' ...but its often a confusion between lie and lay, because somene has to put something in place to use the verb 'lay' though often many say lay, without thinking, it is written 'lie'
b...but I see yur directionas ne could use 'she' as in 'where she is laid'
Thank you for your suggestion and feedback...
My best wishes,
