This is a truly lovely sonnet--skillfully-composed and vividly descriptive, conveying a powerful message about intimacy: It is much more than "passion's throes" and it may come late--well past youth! Note: In line 9, if you say "intimacy is," you'll have ten syllables--like the other lines.

Oh no. I count and I count and still a line gets through! Thank you Janice for pointing that out! I will edit soon as I answer these reviews... I appreciate it when a writer takes the time to scan for form (or slip out of form in this case)--A million thanks!--Karenina

I like this very well written poem that conveys a strong feeling of peace and contentment in a committed relationship that carries into older age. You did a great job with your well chosen words and images. Thanks for sharing your creativity. Bill

Thanks Bill! This one took a lot of reworking to reach the point where I felt it did convey that while youth has its rewards, age has its treasures...among these are acceptance, delight in the quiet communication between two souls... Karenina

Hello Karenina,
Poetry is meant to touch, as this poem does, well before before "the touch."
I love the 'feel' of the words, like the cascade of leaves,
that touch of quiet truth which comes with age.
The form is beautifully done, from imagery, to meter and rhyme,
and then the marvelous couplet.
Six autumn leaves.

I am most honored to have you grant this effort six stars. Er, six autumn leaves, even better! As years fly by it is a comfort to know that at least one special person opens his arms to my past even as we let go of future worries or expectations! Thank you so much!--Karenina

A very well-written heartfelt sonnet about mature love between couples provide content and happiness in heart and mind. Sitting together for hours without a word.

Yes. Yes that was my intent and I am so pleased it came through...
We may speak and listen with our hearts or with words, but even in silence there is the knowing. Knowing we are unconditionally embraced in every sense of the word! Thanks so much, Karenina

These stanzas beautifully executed and metaphorically rich, exude wisdom earned throughout life's winding journey - and what a lovely autumnal scene to illustrate

The autumn of our lives can be as richly vibrant as the autumn leaves depicted in the image I chose. While the heat of summer brings a sizzle of a different kind...somehow autumn years brings a wisdom and perception of what is truly valuable between two souls. Thanks so much for reviewing!--Karenina

This is a well done sonnet that exudes calm in a true and comfortable love.
It shows the beauty of love in a beautiful setting. It reminds us how valuable love is an wisdom comes with age.
I like that the background is the color of autumn to be a metaphor of aging.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

You caught all my hopeful selections to enhance the theme and tha makes me smile! I would expect no less from you as I know your writing well. There are some who bemoan an aging relationship as lacking in excitement or the rush of passion... I think passion is enhanced by this wisdom of how precious trust and comfort and familiarity can be! Thank you!--Karenina

Good morning to you, Karenina

I once heard it said that youth is wasted on the young... I guess in some ways that's very true... as we get older and grow with our chosen partners, the bonds we share become enriched with more than just love making.

I enjoyed reading your Shakspearean sonnet which has perfect ABAB rymne.

Beautifully told

much love

tracey

Perhaps when we are young we are given what we know to seek... A rush of attraction, a heated sizzle of coming together--but often no depth of commitment or understanding. With age we enhance attraction by not needing to "posture" to achieve it. Comfort and trust and acceptance brings two souls together in such a special way! Thank you!--Karenina

Good Morning, Karenina!
Oh my goodness!
Such deep emotion and longing is exceptionally well-expressed in your beautiful sonnet.

The following stanza deeply resonates with me for its innate wisdom:

If fate brought us together, let us not

waste moments wond'ring where this path may lead.

Rather, let us enjoy the time we've got...

for ev'ry moment shared fulfills a need!

What a delightful offering to read and absorb on this cold and rainy Monday morning!

Thank you for sharing!
diane

Yes Karenina, while we're I think we understand little, in fact the little we know in adolescence is potentially more harmful than good, a child doesn't have that ammunition. This is beautifully written my friend, great wisdom imparted in very articulate language, well done blessings Roy

One of the most blessed perks of getting older (and sometimes getting older is a whole lot of complications)--is this coming together without pretense...two souls sharing without judgment or fault finding... Thank you for your kind words, Karenina
