There is much peace and serenity in just knowing the love of another without the need for expression or touch, that long lasting love that comes with age, the torch that never goes out, this is a deeply moving and thoughtful write, much enjoyed Karenina, love Dolly x

I somehow knew that you, Dolly, would understand the deepest meaning of this poem. Thanks for affirming that with this review.
You said it best..."the torch never goes out."--Thank you my friend, Karenina

Hello Karenina, a merry Monday to you. I really enjoyed this poem, the rhymes were good but the message was even better (I'm secretly a hopeless romantic). I think the second stanza was my favorite. Good job and have a great day.

Happy Columbus Day (or whatever they are calling it this year!)--Being a hopeless romantic is a powerful attribute...no need to keep THAT a secret! So pleased you read and enjoyed this one. Thanks and Blessings, Karenina

I was quite charmed by your poem.
It has a soothing cadence.
The images are accessible and satisfying.
I particularly liked: "Though out of reach our finges trace our past."
Job well done.
p.s. I love the photo with your bio.

Can't ask for better comments than these! This is what we writer's strive for-- I've been using that photo for decades. It's come to be a touchstone, somehow... Many Thanks, Karenina

    I try...my "muse" is more a tortoise than a hare! (smile)---Karenina

But who was it that won the race :)

reply by the author on 12-Oct-2020
Well. Hmmmmm. The hare was helter skelter and I never could pin him down long enough to gather my pen and my rhymes and such...so once again the "slow and steady" tortoise was victorious! (Laughing....)----Karenina

I love this Elizabethan sonnet from its incipit to its ending couplet!
"In silence we exist, in blindness, see..." Oh God! How many times it happens !..and How tremendous it becomes of not willingly to break that eternal silence that drops after a quarrel ...Yes, "we learn with the age that intimacy's truth". Life is like a misunderstood book that has been put back in the library in youth and
layers of dust has fallen over it but suddenly we take it out from the self and we easily understand it all. A couples' life should be read and improve (-and this is the critical point) day after day to reach that longed wished missed intimacy that only few couples will be able to reach in serendipity. Great Sonnet indeed! Thank for reading !

Thank you for this generous amount of stars! My goodness, if I could award a review six stars I'd be doing it this moment! You embraced every point I was hopefully presenting and enhanced it with your own observations. I'm walking on sunshine... Gratefully!--Karenina

Enjoyed reading this poem. I really liked the line: Life's treasures do not come to us in youth. The theme of enjoying the time one has remaining with a beloved other is also very strong here. Nice share!

Thank you so much for reviewing! Whether it be romantic love or a true aligning of two souls, it is truly a gift at any age and most particularly when we least expect it! Growing older doesn't have to mean we are immune to that special "spark!" --Karenina

Lovely and elegant. Refreshing to read such powerful imagery that is straightforward vs obscure==I am metaphorically challenged and deep meaning often eludes me. Fine work! Cheers. LIZ

Thanks Liz! Congrats on being the first reviewer of this poem! I appreciate your comments, especially because I've been working on this for awhile and got knee deep in metaphors and such...then clarity came up and knocked some sense into me and I decided to just write what I feel! (Sometimes it's therapy for the heart!)---Gratefully, Karenina

Good to see you again, Karenina! Hope you and your hubby are doing well.
Enjoyed your lovely poem which speaks to me of a loving couple in autumn years enjoying each other's company, letting go of "passion's throes" and content with sharing time together even with an "unlit torch."

Ah, well... The torch doesn't need to be aflame in order to feel the "heat"--so to speak! (Doesn't mean it isn't in fully operable condition!) Smiles to you. All is well, enjoying the long Columbus Day Weekend. All my best to you and thanks for reviewing!--Karenina

Hey! I KNOW that feeling! I KNEW I couldn't be the only one...
Isn't it funny that for all the angst, love...or deep "like" can come along and remind us age is just a dumb old number? SO glad you enjoyed this. Keep that heart open and soar girlfriend!--Many Thanks, Karenina
