Larry's Place by Mastery
Chapter 36 of the book The Deceivers

It just isn't J.D.'s day, is it? I can imagine him squirming the entire time. Cleve trapped him with that dinner invitation. I did wonder about it being after five and the two of them being presented a lunch menu. I guess that could be in some areas of the country. Nice little 'gotcha moment' there at the end. I wouldn't be surprised if J.D. tries to bolt.

The true meaning lies somewhere between the written lines and somewhere beyond the silence of spoken language. We often miss it because it isn't obvious.
This is one to think about.

It looks like you did quite a bit of research on this one. This young lady seems like an incredible musician. The poetic form is excellent, as always. Thank you for leading the way by inspiring us with tales of exceptional women.

I like the way you keep the mystery going in the background and keep building the tension while also keeping the everyday activities moving along. Katherine is really fitting in at school.

Someone else probably already pointed this out, but just in case--I think you meant "or" in this sentence:

Is it only for your classes for can anyone participate?

Wow! What an amazing individual. Rainey's story certainly needs to be told in history classes. You have told the story with excellent details and examples of the incredible things he did. I would love to see a movie about his life. It is obvious you researched your subject well. I appreciate the historical background to put this into perspective.

This is wonderful satire and hits the mark. I can't believe people want to ban Dr. Suess. Shouldn't we be learning from history instead of sweeping it under the rug? We can't progress by closing our eyes.
Excellent dialogue to reveal the personalities of the characters.

Hawkins Meets J.D. Blume by Mastery

Deacon Beardsley is getting more irritating by the minute. He didn't need to call at 7 AM and start off by saying he was told he could call if he needed help. It ends up he didn't need help; he was conveying information. It seems he is going out of his way to hassle Cleve. I am beginning to wonder about this Deacon dude.

I like the Cleve and Mo conversation. She certainly likes the guy.

So, J.D. finally makes an appearance. Looks like a true cowboy type or at least a want-to-be cowboy from the garb he wears.

Great teaser ending. I am anxious to hear their conversation.

I love swap quatrains. It's one of my favorite forms and goes so well with the theme you have chosen. You've done a wonderful job telling a story of two women, each contemplating their lives and dreaming of more. It captures the spirit of so many of us. The selection of the swap quatrain form is perfect for your theme as it makes the reader pause to consider the thoughts more deeply.

Thank you for the challenge. I am already thinking about the women I'd admire. There are so many.

What wonderful people. This is the kind of story I wish would be the breaking news the newscasters would interrupt programming to tell us about. I bet they become dear friends.

It's not always the giant threats that get us. It is often the small unseen threats that we are unaware of until it is too late. Excellent blank verse. You know how to do this form well.
