dportwood is a son of Wyoming soil. He was born and grew up on a ranch in northeastern Wyoming on the western edge of the Black Hills. His happiest days were spent horseback doing something with cattle. He has published one book of western poems and short stories and writes articles for his local newspaper. A survivor of heart by-pass surgery, now retired, he thoroughly enjoys renewed health. His most sought-after achievement is to bring enjoyable reading to anyone who likes to read poetry with a cowboy flare.

Eliane Rabello: To the Portwood himself and his beloved Family, I feel I'm honoured to have come acroos his poetry. I share the belief that he knows he has been awarded cause, in my eyes, he is still nearby. Congratulations!

dportwood: I know Duane would have been very surprised because he was so humble. I am not surprised because this story brought tears to me also. Thank you so much! Sincerely, Connie

cephira: When I think of Fanstory I will forever think of Duane. His were some of the first writings I read when I joined this site. There will always be something magical about the way he wove a story. Each word close to his heart. Each word full of truth and love for God's creatures. When I think of Wyoming, I visualize Duane there, roaming God's country under a bright blue sky. I have never been to Wyoming. I have never seen what Duane saw but his words put a longing in my heart for fields of green grass, the beat of horses hooves, and the smell of fresh rain.
