As the name implies, he writes with a down-home flavor. Nature and conservation are popular topics with him. He writes in many genres. He is known for his poetry and story telling. Short stories are his favorite form of writing. To date he has sold numerous short stories to magazines across the U.S. Most have their roots in nature - of course. Recently he was invited to be his town's Poet Laureate.

Much of his poetry and writing is accompanied by art work. He claims it helps to tell his stories better. Look for him in FanArtReview showing a few of his own pieces.

Recently, he won first place for November 2009 in a Portuguese Book Club short story contest. His story "Three Close Friends" was read on Nov. 1st in Portugal to their book club and went out to 3000 members in over fifty countries. Then in Feb., May and Aug. 2010, three more stories went out to the same book club that now host over 3000 members in 62 countries.

Creature Features on the Island of Cyprus took his "Spirit Wolf" story in March 2010

The Shine Journal selected Moonlit Nights for their October 2009 on-line magazine.

Author Notes:

I am a storyteller from the word go. Some of it is real and some of it is imagined. My goal is to entertain, maybe turn a few smiles right side up. An artist from my youth, I write and paint in different colors. Cheers.
When writers try to fly their works, some of them fall down. But they must always flap their wings - to get off of the ground.

grassroots08: Donald Ford ´┐╝UNLOCKING THE SECRET

Accept each morning as it breaks upon you
Sharing with you yes, another day to hope
Yesterday has its own baggage to carry
Don't unload or unpack it, it's not yours

Let the past bury its own troubles, not you
Looking back I say will only weigh you down
The only place left for you is the future, smile
Run with all your heart into its waiting arms.

The best this world has to offer is tomorrow
As we look for folks that need a helping hand
Forward is the best and only path to follow
We can't look back, and we won't look back

We seek the good of others all around us
We find a way to make their lives better
Now we've unlocked the secret to our life
Nothing will excite us like a brand new day

Cheers, Don

grassroots08: Is this crazy guy back? It's been a rough separation my friends. I hope to link up again with my fellow writers, and meet new friends also. It has been my loss to have been away. I missed you all!

grassroots08: Today I was thinking about what folks on this site are all looking to read. What sparks their interest that would turn them to a piece I wrote or poem I've composed?

I decided that the work they seem most drawn to are the same pieces that wake me in the middle of the night or early in the morning. They are like prompts, and I must pen them when they are fresh in my mind or chance losing them.

I am penning these lines; I know you're out there. But the question is: Will you respond? I am here each night and the evenings are long without someone to talk to. So if you could find the time, maybe you could join me here.

I am having a cup of coffee and thought you might like some too. I do have other things to offer, if coffee isn't your cup of tea. I am usually sitting and pondering about what has transpired during my day. I can't change any bad decisions, but I can think about improving on them.

I wonder just how many other lonely people are out there? We are the ones who should be getting together, but then we might only succeed in depressing one another. LOL Maybe someone with an upbeat heart could also join us here.

I know I heard a noise. I was hoping it was you. But like so many other nights, it was just the wind that I was hearing. But I will even welcome that; it beats the dead silence. They say messages sometimes come on breezes. Well, I'm listening quite intently now!

How did you know I was feeling like crumb cake right now? LOL Cheers, Don

P.S. Sorry I was so slow to respond - I need to check this board more often. Ha Ha

findingmyroom: Hey, Don, your piece about waiting on the phone brought to mind the time I called my student loan company. I went through all the ridiculous menus, finally pressed the number that would (praise God) get me a real person... Well, guess what? It put me back at the start of that whole sequence again! Disgraceful and infuriating to say the least.

    grassroots08: Hello "Finding"
I'm not just a number, I am special #284. I don't know who #283 was, or who #285 will be, but I'm here and my position is firm. I'm not leaving now until they KICK me out. So, sorry you're stuck with me. So many things to say, and so little time left.

Sometimes I have to take my little MUSE out for a walk and I have to clean up any messes along the way. I hope folks will see this little ditty as something fun to read and not at all something that must be bagged and discarded. So go ahead and have a smile or two on me. But by all means "keep those smiles right side up". (My own Quote). LOL Cheers, Don

P.S. Stay on the line, your number will come up soon.LMBO Don
