rhymelord is a well retired, long-in-the-tooth engineer who is a self confessed dinosaur in his lack of appreciation of verse that has no rhyme or scan. He would love to learn to understand the attraction blank verse obviously has for some, but, having grown up on a diet of Kipling and Coleridge, Masefield and Browning and sundry other poets of the old school, it is hard. He was also brought up on, and is an inveterate whistler and singer, of the great popular songs of the thirty's, forty's and fifty's, in which rhythm and rhyme played a very important part and this proclivity for melodic expression has to a great degree affected his preference for scanned and rhyming verse. However, to appease those who may read some attitude of Anglophilia in his choice of poets above and some lack of tolerance for blank verse lovers, he also thinks Longfellow deserves an honorable mention for that pretty good effort in "Hiawatha", which although devoid of rhyme has a pounding addictive rythm. rhymelord has been scribbling some very undistinguished verse for some sixty years. However, only a few of these efforts have been carried through to a finished work and, until he joined Fan Story on 27th December 2008, he has only shared his output with friends, which sadly seem to decrease in number with every reading. He prays this will not be the case in Fan Story, where he hopes to find kindred tortured souls who are mad enough to express their thoughts in rhyme and will therefore look kindly on a fellow sufferer. He looks forward to a long and (poetically) fruitful association.
And this above all to thine own self be true.
