Have you ever tried to pick up a spoon full of cooked spaghetti and meatballs? Did you get it all the way to your mouth, all noodles in tact? If you did, you are far more talented than I (me?).
Ideas are like slippery noodles. I think that time it like that too. So when a person grows up saying, "I love to write. I want to be a writer!" and then blinks only to find 43 years have been used up and it hasn't happened yet, well that's the slippery noodle syndrome. I have it.
So this membership on FanStory is me tossing that dratted spoon into the sink and pointedly winding slippery strands of spaghetti around the tines of a fork in an effort to force myself to write. I really do like to write. Of course this doesn't necessarily mean I'm good at it.
This could get messy! ...but then, everything I do gets messy.
Heave ho fork!

APA on the brain.
I missed my July 2nd deadline to post an essay or a short story. But I got my homework turned in on time and it's very well written. I guess I'll just have to set a new deadline and try again. July 16th is it. Maybe when I'm sitting on the deck at Mozart's in Austin tomorrow I'll be able to fling some words on a page and stir them into a story.

So this is obviously a battle for me. Is it perfectionism or is it procrastination? Both? I'm going to have to make myself post frazzled pieces. I have to post it but without qualifying it as incomplete and unpolished. Not so easy. However, a post is overdue and shards are all I have. So I am posting the meager two paragraphs that I managed to write last week when I attempted to participate in the daily prompt (or something like that). It was the prompt that required the story to begin with: She had a place to go. The piece - False Start - is nothing to write home about; most definitely not promotable, but it's a pros post and there's always next week.

So I'm playing around with this Haiku thing. Have had to research Haiku - I'm not very well versed in the conventions of poetry. Believe me, I am making a mess! Funny thing though, all these bits and pieces of discarded poetry on the cutting room floor are kind of cleaning out my head. Hm.
Okay, that's enough of the deep end for now.

Finally! Last night I was able to lie flat on the driveway in the middle the night with hands pressed against cool concrete and eyes clamped shut. I could feel the earth move through the sky. I quickly opened eyes aimed past the treetops and had to hang on so I wouldn't fall off! Um, it's a favored pastime during the post school year defragging week. It means that summer is here!
