I've been a lover of writing all my life. I love to write stories (though, admittedly and regrettably, I've yet to actually finish any of the novels I've started -- not even the ones I've done for NaNoWriMo), but my biggest passion in writing lies with poetry.

I've been writing poetry off and on since 2003. Much of my earlier poems aren't all that good (in my personal opinion), but I enjoy them for the fact that they've been learning experiences.

My biggest hope in joining this site is to be able to improve my writing skills. My biggest dream is to have my poetry published and recognized.

My favorite poet of all time is Sylvia Plath. I have also recently been introduced to the poetry of Laura Stamps and Mary Oliver. OMG they are AMAZING!!!
I took a deep breath and listened to the old bray of my heart: I am. I am. I am.

Elektra_Azalea: Why do I bother arguing with those too dimwitted to get past their stubborn perceptions? Seriously >.<

"Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

faithin01: I like the famous golden rule, that says "if you can't say something nice, then don't say nothing at all."

Elektra_Azalea: I love rainy days. We have too few of them here ^_^ Perhaps I should live in Washington someday. I think I would quite love it there.

Elektra_Azalea: This has not exactly been a good birthday. In fact, it's pretty much been the crappiest I've ever had. I'm sorry. I know that sounds all drama queen-ish. But it's true. Too long of a story to get into on here, but yeah. It's sucked a lot of expletives that I probably shouldn't say on here. Yay me.

faithin01: so sorry you had a sad birthday back there in May. Hope you are being blessed today, here in June.

Elektra_Azalea: Hooray. Having been inducted in my first bit of drama on this site, I hope the drama llamas leave me alone after that. Don't bitch at me because I gave you 4 stars >.< Effin' seriously.

nor84: I can't remember everybody to whom I give four stars, but when I get a nasty response, I'll avoid reviewing them again, at least for a while. If it's more than just nasty, i.e., a personal attack, I'll report them.

redrider6612: If you give less than 5, you need to give the author concrete reasons, because less than 5 means "needs adjustment." If you can't give any suggestions for improvement, be prepared to get some less-than-happy replies.

Elektra_Azalea: I gave her my reasons for doing such and they were honest reasons. Quite simply, it was a good poem and a cute poem. I enjoyed it very much, but it wasn't what I'd call 5-star, and that's ok. The 4-star rating reads as "Good" and I thought her poem was good even if I didn't think it was great. I'm sorry, but someone giving 4 stars on something is a pretty piss-poor, self-entitled reason to get pissy with someone. Sometimes people just need to realize that even if the person didn't DISLIKE your poem, it might not have been the greatest thing they ever read either. Sometimes that's all it boils down to, and for someone to bitch at me because I said their poem was "Good" made me want to go back and change it to a 1-star >.<

Not everyone is going to LOOOOOOOOOOVE the poems one puts out. Some might find it a 6 and others might find it a 3 and it might not be for anything more than pure druthers. That's how writing goes. I swear, the next person who jumps up my ass over a 4-star rating is going to get a huge Internet Bitchslap from me.

I've got one piece that was rated by one as a 6 and as a 4 by another. Big whoop. I don't see 4 stars as a bad rating. If they'd told me that that piece was utter shite, then I might want to know why, but I'm sure as hell not going to get my skirts ruffled just because someone gave me a 4-star rating on something. I simply take it as "They liked my piece even if it wasn't the best they ever saw. And I'm fine with that." And then I move on with my day. I don't expect everyone to get stars in their eyes over my work. Even when it comes time for me to try to publish. Some might like it, and others not. And if I feel that some of my stuff needs re-writing, great. I definitely don't mind the suggestions of "try re-writing it like this". If it's something I feel I could do and it would improve the work, great. If not, I thank them kindly for their honest opinion, and I go about my day. I don't go jumping up their arse over it, whether it's because they thought something was wrong with my piece or just because they liked it well enough but it just wasn't their druthers kind of thing.

*deep breath* Ok. I'm shutting up now LoL

redrider6612: If anyone "jumps up your arse" over a review, you need to report them. That kind of response is a break in site rules, and they need to learn the proper way to handle honest reviews. Too many are allowed to get away with that kind of rude behavior.

Tawnyowl: You are right about this four star thing. Too many people expect a five star and are not happy with anything else. The site members are perhaps becoming too complacent as too many fives are awarded. Tawny

Elektra_Azalea: @redrider I agree. I decided to, shall we say, "count coo" (I don't know if I spelled that right) and simply remind her as to the rules they list when replying to reviews and told her that in the future I will avoid reading and reviewing her work since I don't appreciate having my rating methods criticized, especially since it wasn't a bad rating and I was not disparaging toward her in any way.

@Tawny Exactly!! It's great to get 5- or 6-star reviews, but ultimately it's the less-shiny ones we learn the most from. I don't always have an idea as to how something can be improved when I give a rating of less than 5 stars, but I still express appreciation for the work, but I don't rate something 5 or 6 stars if I don't personally find it to be that good in my honest opinion.

And considering the over 100 reviews she already had on it and the average rating of Excellent, I couldn't understand her angst over mine that didn't follow the rest of the herd.

Elektra_Azalea: I am really hoping that my short story, "Summer Snowfall" does well in the Write About This contest :-)
May 20, 2012 at 6:49PM

Elektra_Azalea: I have a couple of poems entered into a couple of contests! I'm not counting on winning, but I'd be thrilled as hell to just do well ^_^
