"I am a writer, editor, educator, musician, and small business owner. For the past 17 years I have been inn-keeping at my bed and breakfast in Louisville KY. I am passionate about women's issues, the arts, and life in general. I love to blog."

Nancy is a non-fiction writer and Innkeeper. She writes regularly for several magazines, has four blogs of her own, and maintains a blog for the Louisville Bed and Breakfast Association. She's been writing all her life, mostly journal articles.

She started a memoir around two years ago, about the 18 years she's been an innkeeper, and finally finished it. She's in the process of submitting it for publication.

Recently, she started a new memoir and will be posting information gathered from research and chapter excerpts on her writer's blog as well as here.

nhinchliff: Very busy at the time to write. Working from 5 am to at 10 pm (with a few breaks to eat, etc.). I've had a full house for ten days in a row...exhausted but happy. October is our busiest month. Miss being here, bantering back and forth, and reading everybody's stuff. Be back soon.

DIS-illusioned: Save me a bed and breakfast--bacon and eggs. I'll pick 'em up when I can.

rosehill (Wendy): Have to say I'm in the same boat. October and the leaf peepers. Just coming off 27 days straight and headed for thirteen more. I'd mention something about how tough it is with all the one-nighters, but everyone on the forum would be all over that in a nano-second. Hang in there and we will probably both be wishing for some of that work to do in late November.

nhinchliff: Hey Dis...saving some of my super scrambles eggs and cheese for you. Send me an address and I'll just mail them :=)

nhinchliff: rosehill, did not know you had a BnB. Hi to another tired innkeeper. Leaf peepers? LOL Hadn't heard that one. We've got the St James Art stompers (3rd`largest Art show in the country) And this year, for some reason, seems like I'm getting all the Gluten Free diet people who come to Louisville. We're still pretty busy in November. It's January that does me in.

nhinchliff: Just updated my profile page. Trying to get some more chapters together, from my new memoir, ready to post here. Extremely busy at BnB now. Hard to find time to write and socialize on-line.

nhinchliff: Some of you may have noticed lately I'm not reviewing as much as I usually do. It's because I'm working on my second memoir (Roxie, Alfred and Me) and have gotten hung up on the time-line and all the research I've had to do. I've only posted two chapters so far and as soon as I figure out what happened when, I'll post the next one.

nhinchliff: OK....figured out how to post videos here. What about pictures? Tammie, you post pictures all the time. How do you do it?
September 16, 2012 at 2:04PM

nhinchliff: I have no trouble putting videos or pictures on a page I'm writing. I know how to upload. But how do you put them on your profile page???
September 16, 2012 at 11:37AM
shelley kaye: is a free site where you upload you pics and get a "code" to place them anywhere.
    September 16, 2012 at 12:25PM
    nhinchliff: Thanks Shelley

nhinchliff: Will someone please tell me how to post videos and pictures here. Thanks, Nancy
September 16, 2012 at 10:52AM
Sarkems: right, well, I've just learned that to post videos from youtube, you click 'share' then 'embed' and copy and paste the link provided. I don't know about photos, I think you have to use photobucket, but I don't know what that is
    September 16, 2012 at 11:18AM
nhinchliff: Thanks, emsey, I finally figured it out thanks, in part, to your help.....Nancy

nhinchliff: In my opinion, these are some of the characteristics needed in a prose piece to qualify for a six star review:
-Excellent hook at the beginning, making the reader want to read on
-Good writing ...the kind I want to read...clear, flowing, easy to understand (not filled with SPAG).
-Content is interesting, builds up tension as it goes along.
-Everything said and done moves the story along with no superfluous stuff to get in the way.
-Although there may be a mini-resolution along the way, the end of a chapter leaves me with lots of questions and the compelling desire to read more.
- A good story arc (mostly for fiction)

Yep, sounds like an excellent way to start it off.
    Good luck. :)

William Walz: I can write my memoir and post it right here. Born. Only child. Spoiled rotten. Life-long underachiever. Two failed marriages. Got old. Dead and buried.
    August 19, 2012 at 12:03PM
nhinchliff: William, What a shame there's not more to your life than that.
    August 19, 2012 at 12:46PM

nhinchliff: I am very happy. I won my first contest here yesterday for a non-fiction piece. I'm not really a competitive person, but it sure did feel good to get that little ribbon.

    Joy Graham: Congratulations!!!
    August 16, 2012 at 10:24AM
nhinchliff: Thanks, Joy. It's a real incentive to write more.
    August 16, 2012 at 11:23AM
MAITCH: It's Maitch here. Sorry to intrude, but I have made a transition in chapter 1 of the Iron Palace. You'll see it if you look in your reviews. It's really only a line, but I think it might be less confusing. Sorry it sounded so muddled to you, but some of we writers sort of write to ourselves. This is the good part of having work reviewed.
    Take a look.

nhinchliff: I am in the process of submitting my first memoir for publication. So far, I've gotten some good response but have not firmed anything up as yet. I have started a second memoir and am spending a lot of time trying to get the first draft down.
