Julie Blackpool: I'm having a crisis of confidence. I write something and I think it's okay then I read other peoples work and immediately I feel like a fraud. Me a writer?! I'm having a laugh aren't I? I can't do that! Am I the only one who ever felt like this? How do you overcome it?

Torrence Winter: Shuddup, quit whining and write.

redrider6612: Just do your best and don't worry about comparing your writing to others. Take constructive criticism with gratitude and humility. You must have confidence in yourself if you expect others to have confidence in you. Keep writing!

Aaron James: Absolutely not alone Julie. The great thing about this community is that we can look at others in awe of their ability. Take on board what they write, how they write and improve our own craft. Just as you look at other people and think, I can't do that, it is highly likely that someone will look at your writing and think something similar. Keep writing, keep learning, keep enjoying.

seren james: Aaron is right. It's like we're on the steps of a ladder. I think everyone must feel this way. I often feel that my writing is not spontaneous like others. Always feel like there's something amiss.
Especially when I read works of famous poets I wonder why I write at all.

Julie Blackpool: Taking the plunge----what a cliche!----joining a writing group for the very first time. Totally lacking confidence. Does anyone have any words of advice?

seren james: Read the lovely writing on here, think on what you like to read and keep working at trying to develop your craft and post something if you would like to read it yourself. Don't worry take the plunge, we will be a safely rail for you.

Shadow Pahn: Just add your work and learn from reviews. Don't cherish or defend your work, rely on the expertise of your reviewers. You'll notice a steady increase in your skill with each work you post.
