Cherokee messenger: So sorry to hear about Alvin today. I am grateful I was able to take two of his courses here on FanStory . I learned so much, but was only beginning to truly understand.

Cherokee messenger: I knew little of writing when I signed up on FanStory. I didn't realize so many authors used pen names. Thinking I had nothing to hide, I stayed with my name as usual. I have received some criticism for this. Wondering now what to do...

Celtic~Soul: It's often best to use a pseudonym different from what you will publish under when you workshop your writing on the web. Some publishers will google you to see if the work you submit is "published" on the internet. If it is they may reject it. Some of them consider sites like FS to be "published" even though it's considered a workshop site.

Also, hate to say it, but there are some ne'er-do-well types passing through here who you might not want to know your real name. Safer, in that case, to use something else.

Most of the people I know well here (we've been here for years) use pseudonyms or fun screen names that may use part of their real names but not all of it.

Cherokee messenger: I so appreciate the insights you have shared to this question. In the end, I have decided to make the change to something anonymous, yet reflective of my identity. Thank you!
