Painting by Viktor Oliva is Absinthe's Green Fairy, the Muse.

I cannot decide which world is more real - the one I walk in or the one my characters dream in.
If you wrote something for which someone sent you a check, if you cashed the check and it didn't bounce, and if you then paid the light bill with the money, I consider you talented. - Stephen King

Petriesan: almost done with the first set of edits after collecting notes from first readers. I had forgotten how hard it is to do that. I have now read the book four times and with any luck will send it to a copy editor within a week and get ready to start marketing it...

Petriesan: oddity of the day: two chapters are at the 1st and 2nd spot today?unusual and not likely to last another 24 hours. (Actually, the first time at either spot too. . .I never use that many points, just a fluke

Petriesan: just a little over three weeks in, two pieces "all time best", which, I think means it got a lot of ratings without too many fours...

eye opening so far. SOme of the pieces I loved get so-so welcomes. . .and the ones I was not sure of were the two with the all-time" notations...

will need to consider this information
November 30, 2013 at 4:07PM
AnonymousWisdom: All-time best ratings are based on the number of reviews you receive.

DIS-illusioned: The race is seldom to the swiftest here, but mostly to he who pays out the most in promotions.

Petriesan: I have a +/- 6,000 word piece and am trying to figure the best wy to put it up here. SUggestions?
November 25, 2013 at 11:07AM
adewpearl: Divide it into 3 sections. When people post 6000 word pieces many people just hit skip and won't read at all. Others give it a skim read and don't bother to give it a good edit. You really improve your chances of getting useful reviews with three 2000 word installments.
    November 25, 2013 at 11:11AM
Petriesan: but how do I link them all together so there is not confusion that part 2---which may have trouble walking in its own---is not unfairly criticized?
    November 25, 2013 at 11:25AM
adewpearl: I don't write prose, so I'm not used to doing this, but I know the site has a way to link sections, like linking chapters in a book. If you don't know how to do it, post a question in the General Forum, where it is most likely to be seen by people who use this function all the time.
    November 25, 2013 at 11:42AM
Celtic~Soul: You need to start a novel. Even though it's not a novel, by using the novel feature you can link each section as a "chapter" of the larger story. When you post he individual sections you can still mark them as stand-alone short works so your reviews will apply to your short works ranking.

So you to your portfolio (I think that's where it is), or wherever you find the Create a Novel option, and set it up then you can add chapters (or your long-short's) sections to it. to add a chapter to a novel, esp. the first chapter, post the chapter and then in your portfolio you'll see it and there will be an Add to Book option to find the novel you created and add the chapter. It's pretty self-explanatory. After the first one's in there it's easy to add more just click Add a Chapter from the novel's listing in your portfolio list.

I haven't one this for a while so the button names and stuff may have changed but the general method should be the same.

Celtic~Soul: @Brooke - It's basically just the same way you'd set up a book of poems.
    November 25, 2013 at 12:34PM
    Petriesan: got it. thanks
    November 25, 2013 at 12:35PM

Petriesan: I am still trying to get the hang of this place, but then, tomorrow is my 14th day. . .so, I guess it will come with time.

To those whose work I have left comments on, I am trying to learn how to do that. To those of you who have commented on mine and especially those who have shown me error, thank you.

Petriesan: News ( for me anyway): Why is the Red Fish Being Bad was just awarded with "Recognized" status---first time, one week after joining. Made me happy
November 15, 2013 at 11:10AM

Petriesan: Just got notices that my piece "Paul McCartney's Hairline" was placed on the well-received listing. How often does this happen?
November 14, 2013 at 4:48PM
Celtic~Soul: Pretty often. That listing constantly rotates based on number of reviews new posts receive. It does means you got a number of high-star reviews in a short period. That's great!
    November 15, 2013 at 10:28AM
Sankey: Yes very good. Dunno how many of us have gone that far in such a short time. I am getting some recognition now but been a long haul. I appreciate al my reviewers they keep me straight.
    November 21, 2013 at 12:52AM

Petriesan: As bad as this will make me look, the first several times I posted an essay---non fiction---I flat could not find the non-fiction tab on the site. I guess I am older than I had previously thought. But now that I have found it and corrected all my misteaks, all should be well
November 12, 2013 at 10:47PM
Selina Stambi: Welcome to Fanstory, Petrie. You're going to love it here.

p.s. Will you be eating all those "misteaks" with potatoes and gravy?? :)
    November 13, 2013 at 9:15PM
Petriesan: if its brown gravy, yep
    November 14, 2013 at 12:46AM
humpwhistle: Brown gravy? Are you sure you're not from Rhode Island?

The well-received notice means your piece has been put on the front page. You need at least five excellent reviews to get there, but, depending on the other posts of the day, it could take more. It's a good place to be if you want reviews. If you keep getting good reviews, you can stay on the front page for as long as 24 hours.
    November 15, 2013 at 9:06AM
Petriesan: Rhode Island is one of four states I have not spent the night in. The other three are Vermont, New Hampshire and Oregon. . .love that brown gravy
