LIJ Red: I suspect it was a part of the "testing" phase that I slowed down and read the "Kubler-Ross stages of grief" chart, the
modified model.
Shock, denial, anger, bargaining,depression,testing, acceptance.
Nine years ago, I suffered the rapid fire losses of all my remaining family, my wife and mother. I was 67, and have
recovered too slowly. A youth of poverty and years in the military left me hard enough to carry on, but I got hung up in the
"bargain, depression and testing" stages of grief.
Added to the denial and anger was living alone, and realizing my turn was coming soon.
First I scrutinized my faith, then religion as a whole. Along with some cosmology. No epiphanies there.
Then I thought I wanted to spread my thoughts and notions, becoming in a fashion immortal, although I claimed at the time I wanted to join the ranks of writers I admired, and entertain the world. Hence my membership in Fanstory, and an almost frantic outburst of writing bordering the incoherent.
Now Red the writer has joined Rev. Red the evangelist in sheol, that shadowy nowhere beneath the world.
Today the country store has no heater for old men to sit around and bullshoot (sells mucho beer and lotto tickets, though!) so let's see what Red the codger has to say, assuming he survives Covid-19.

    ~Dovey: Hi LIJ:
I've missed you! I'm back for more NaPoWriMo fun... perhaps, I'll convince myself that I have time enough to stick around through the year this time around. I know I've been very slack about posting at FS the past few years (outside of April, that is. I hope this finds you in good health and spirits!

LIJ Red: Here comes Atlas, bigger'n Hale-Bopp.
From thee heathene and ye comet , oh, Lorde, deliver us!
(And the bug roared and the empire crumbled.)
And my mute muse sits and glosses her lips...

Jesse James Doty: I love this. Especially the last line. Very provocative.

LIJ Red: Writer's block still formidable. Eyes much better, fewer anxiety issues. Next door neighbor just shot a bear demolishing his back porch. Under normal circumstances that would rate a sonnet...Merry Christmas, Fanstorians!

Gloria ....: Merry Christmas to you too, Ellijay. :)
    December 17, 2019 at 2:51AM
damommy: So good to hear from you. Watch out for bears, and have a Merry Christmas!

robyn corum: So good to hear from you. Been worried. Happy Holidays. Get back to it. That's an order.

LIJ Red: The software tricked me somehow. I meant to put a leprechaun on my post, but hit banana supreme instead.
Now what?
June 15, 2019 at 4:53PM
Jannypan (Jan) : You can still promote it yourself. Just go to your portfolio to the poem. Look for 'Promote this" click there then scroll down to where the LL certificate is mentioned and click on it.

    WryWriter: St. Judes Children's Hospital.

WryWriter: That is, if you aren't referring to your own signature. ; )

Colin John: That's a horrible situation to be in if they were family and something we all dread I guess. On the other hand you should be applauded for surviving the longest and so I would give it as long as possible and treat yourself or do the old bucket list thing If you had a mind to.
    May 27, 2019 at 8:38AM
Ms. Snyder: So sorry to hear that Red, if your taking applicants for beneficiaries I can think of a couple of people in huge need in and around Georgia!
    May 28, 2019 at 1:05PM

LIJ Red: Hey, everybody! If I review ya and the rating is less than five stars without a preachy rant attached, yell at me. The site software sometimes seems to choose its own number of stars and I might not catch it..

sandramitchell: That's always happening to me! So embarrassing! :(
    May 9, 2019 at 4:52PM
giraffmang: Same thing happened to me a few days ago... grrr
    May 10, 2019 at 6:18AM
Ms. Snyder: I would never yell at ya! I might - holler! LOL Cheers, Fonda
    May 11, 2019 at 7:34PM
BeasPeas: Hi Red. I do the same. Never less than a 5 from me. May include suggestions or not. Who am I to rain on anybody's parade? Marilyn

LIJ Red: My sixteen-year-old Persian lookalike was attacked by a fast aggressive cancer, and I had to have her put down today. RIP, Wadd. (she appears in many of my scribblings)
April 29, 2019 at 11:40PM
Jannypan (Jan) : I am sorry for your loss of your dear Wadd.

    April 30, 2019 at 12:05AM
damommy: Oh, Red, I'm so sorry. I know you loved her very much. She knew it, too, and had a wonderful with you.
    April 30, 2019 at 2:01AM
sandramitchell: I'm so sorry, our pets are our children, and to lose them is so very painful. I'm sure she is looking down on you. Sending a hug. xx
    April 30, 2019 at 1:32PM
LIJ Red: Thank you very much for the kind words...that old cat dated back to the time when I had a wife, a mother, a job, and a few friends, and a horizon beyond the trees on this hill...

LIJ Red: Doodling and inch is .0254 meters
a pound is .4535 kilograms
BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared
I joined the Navy at 21 at a 17 BMI.
Hey, I have doubled my investment!

DR DIP: hahaha very funny Red you made me laugh
    March 27, 2019 at 4:33PM
Ms. Snyder: I do not like this calculation. (for me) Hmm. But very funny! And what's worse is we shrink as we age... LOL
    March 28, 2019 at 3:32PM

LIJ Red: I paid a whole fifty cents at the junk store, and lost the dang I found it. Two poems I liked as I sat on the ivory throne of relief...the Bard on fornicatin' "The Expense of Spirit" and Marianne Moore on "Poetry so derivative as to be unintelligible." Go girl. But I can see how far I am from significance...

LIJ Red: Must be deer season...hunters hit the woods and the deer forsake their territories and end up in strange places... Nice fourpointer in the neighbor's yard yesterday and a doe run down at my mailbox this morning. (pieces of red plastic car scattered all around). Not the frontier anymore...
December 10, 2018 at 4:29PM
Dean Kuch: Well, if you live in redneck country you can always find something to shoot at, Red.
    Just sayin'...

    (Sorry, kiddies...heh-heh)
    December 12, 2018 at 10:45PM
CD Richards: Wow, cool pic, Dean. Is that Don Jr, or Eric?

LIJ Red: Clobbered again in the Story of the month contest, but noted once again, my entry had seven reviews and 24 views when promotion ended weeks ago, and now it has eight reviews and 25 for ourselves and our pals without reading all the entries? Surely not! So losers, have no fear, it does not mean you are a hopelessly bad writer...

Six-Star Writer: Yes, your post isn't a big surprise. I've noticed a theme here: people voted for people they like. They don't care about your writing, so much as you are a part of their inner circle. This group of writers doesn't use objectivity when factoring into how they will judge a work or, ultimately, vote for it. They simply allow favoritism play a part when making their choices. So basically, it becomes an "I'll vote for your story, if you'll vote for mine, friend," situation. I, too, have gotten very good reviews for my writing, save for those few writers who aren't capable reviewers and don't adhere to FanStory reviewing guidelines and arbitrarily award fewer stars for a work than they should qwith no real explanation of why they gave me the stars they did. Having stated this obvious bias and favoritism atmosphere, and the self-righteous, political, religious, and myopic worldly-view mindsets here--which should have no place in a creative venue--I keep posting my work. First, and foremost, because I love to write, and have loved to write for the past 45 to 50 years, and second, because I appreciate the feedback I get from the unbiased group of writers here who don't care about the clique, high-school-like banning together thing. Can't wait to write more. Regardless of the way I've been treated here at times, I absolutely love FanStory, and I hope to be a member for years to come. As for my writing, I have not now, or ever, questioned that I have a unique gift and voice like no other. And I will never doubt that--whether I am granted the privilege of continuing to post here or not. No one will ever stop me from picking up a pen or pencil, or finding a computer keyboard on which to place my fingers on which to crank out my works. And if all else fails, I'll take to grabbing a piece of charcoal and writing on caves, the way our ancestors did when trying to get their thoughts out!

LIJ Red: I remind myself occasionally to be discreet when clicking on a reviewer's name to do a return review...they might be in a blind contest...
October 28, 2018 at 10:35PM
Six-Star Writer: Sorry for the typos and messed-up wording at times. Wrote that on the fly.
    November 9, 2018 at 4:59PM

LIJ Red: My trademark possum came calling. He is huge for the species...twenty pounder or close...
October 20, 2018 at 9:02PM
damommy: I think possums are cute. I have one that visits every night. He's after the cat food, and I always put out enough for him and the raccoon that comes.
    October 21, 2018 at 5:52AM
LIJ Red: No name, not totally sure he is the same marsupial, but looks and acts like him...this one likes cat food, dog food and Red food...
    October 21, 2018 at 5:10PM
country ranch writer: They will eat what you put our but our does not like gree stuff like beans or collard greens.
    December 14, 2018 at 10:08PM

LIJ Red: Looking back at the songs I've been listening to tonight, I see a sad pattern....Queen of the Silver Dollar, Old Hippie, and Hey Nineteen....
