Lance Loria: This is a maximum 300 word prompt that was over 600 words in my first draft so it required a lot of editing. I enjoyed providing some humor and a bit of a twist at the end. I hope you all enjoy the read.

Lance Loria: The pure act of writing in itself is it's own reward. However, the occasional recognition from a 6-star rating or contest award provides a nice motivational boost. Thank you to those who have provided a much needed boost!

Lance Loria:
The voting booth process is corrupt. The "Committee" does a terrible job monitoring compliance. I noticed a really average poem place in the contest. I looked at one reviewer and EVERY rating given was a six. So I looked in reverse and every rating from the other person was a six. Friends helping friends. I don't have electronic monitoring tools but my common sense reveals obvious abuse. This probably cannot be fixed and should be trashed. All writers pay an entry fee. Too bad the contests are rigged by writers that coordinate with friends. This is a terrible process that should be replaced. Stick a fork in me, I'm done.

Lance Loria:
Well back writing and after only a few months, already fed up with FanStory. Yesterday a new "member" with one day here rated my Haiku a "3" because he didn't feel that 3 lines told enough about the topic. I realize some people are new and/or uninformed; the problem is what to do about it. I don't want to deal with aggravation here...this is for my enjoyment.

Happy New Year! After a three month hiatus, I've returned with a renewed attitude and appetite to write again. I even submitted a contest under the "twenty" theme. I look forward to our interactions and a bountiful new year of fresh writing! Lance.

I have grown weary of this site. Taking time away to decide if I will come back or disengage. Too frustrated with contest voting booths and judging. Sad 😞

mrsmajor: I don't believe you're alone, after 16 years in this site, I'm just plain sick of it...and will not be renewing my membership...Sometimes progress can lose it's original purpose...and that's what I'm seeing...I wish you well!

Jannypan (Jan) : I believe the contests--site/member--will cause many to leave. Suggestions have been made, but they fall on deaf ears. There is too much bias with the contests including the 'of the month' selections. With the large number of members, the same handful are always selected in the 'of the month' contests. Therefore, the winners just seem to rotate among that group. The whole contest idea needs to be revamped. Yes, it MAY have worked in the past. But as years passed, it has caused much hurt, disgust, and threats of leaving--including those that have, or will be, leaving. If FS doesn't focus on improvement, then the site may find a great loss of revenue.

Lance Loria: I had decided not to participate in any more voting booth contests. Then I wrote this 500 word story and had so much fun with it, I decided to share it. I was happily surprised to catch a third place tie and thank you to the voters
