My name is Iza Deleanu, and I currently live in Edmonton, where words are my joyful escape. Originally from Romania, I have published poetry in anthologies as well as short stories under the pen name Izabela Barzoaga. In 2009 I moved to Canada, and I try to conquer a piece of the Canadian literary world. Here are some of my literary achievements:
Iza Deleanu writes about events that surround the human universe and transcribes those fragments into humorous fiction. She is the author of three books:
Kaleidoscope (poetry, short fiction, and drama published in 2006 in 4 languages: English, Romanian, Bulgarian and Italian);
Intinerariu cu ingeri ("Wandering with angels" - short stories published in 2003);
Negustorul de vise ("The merchant of dreams" - short stories published in 2002).
She has published short stories and poetry in the following anthologies: Ferestre spre lumina (Windows into the dawn - published in 2002), Rascrucea dintre ganduri ("The crossing between the thoughts" - published in 2002) and Strigatul din corn de luna (The scream of the half-moon - published in 2003). All the books are part of the National and Central University Library "Carol I" library collection.
2001 - 2009 Iza was a member of the writer' s literary guild "Amurg Sentimental" from Bucharest, Romania. In 2000 she won the special prize for the short story contest - Vara visurlor mele (The summer of my Dreams) and also the award for the short story contest organized by the literary magazine "Amurg Sentimental." As a student, she was a member of the Literary Association of Bulgarian students, and as such she wrote a play, short stories, and poetry. In 2011 she joined the Writers Guild of Alberta and also started to publish on-line on the Romanian literary website Agonia.net.
Iza's writing brings spontaneity, laughter, philosophy, and a cultural mixture between different worlds, languages, and life experiences.
