Princess Cut

by David Sumich

Pulled from the Earth is a stone to behold
Inside this rock waits a life to unfold
Only needing a master's loving embrace
A cut here and there, the gem takes its face.

Sweat on his brow, head turned to the side
Skillful and loving, his hands instill pride
Careful now is his sharp stroke of steel
He works this Earth to bring out her appeal.

One last touch, now the Earth is untorn
The master sits back, what love has he born?
Somewhere in time, in a setting she'll shine
A jewel for the ages, a love for all time.

Love Poem Poetry Contest contest entry

While on its face (pun intended), this poem would appear to be about the creation of a perfect stone, it is actually a metaphor for the transformation of a woman by way of plastic surgery. Look closely at the associated artwork (also my original work) and you can see the woman's face within.
