Not yet exceptional. When the exceptional rating is reached this is highlighted
Our animal nature is something we have to revere.

by Sandra C. Johnston

I write propped up on my bed -
perhaps another book?
My cat straddles my arm
with animal embrace.
I am female and
he holds my hand tightly
between his gentle paws
as I stroke his fingers.

He is in oblivion
pressing his chest to my wrist
rubbing his back legs
along the sides of my forearm
enjoying an ecstatic moment
of animal lust.

I am a surrogate.
O how powerful and delightful
Must the real thing be!

It is probably a good thing
that he doesn't know
as I might lose him
to a bigger world.

He stares me down
now and then waiting
for I know not what.

I am puzzled as to
how to respond to that
daze in his look as he
returns to an oblivion
I can't comprehend.

I stay cautious
not to disturb his pleasure
as he pulses rhythmically
his moment - his momentum.

I sit to watch vicariously
wishing for some delight too!
