He had always hated filling in Census forms, requiring detailed and personal information, a grim reminder of their bitter disappointment with nine unsuccessful IVF attempts.

It was that time again.

At the question, "How many people live at this address?" he raised his pen, paused briefly, then triumphantly wrote "THREE!"

In Australia, Census Forms are filled in every five years.

My sister's daughter had been childless for nearly twenty years, then after nine failed IVF attempts, she conceived naturally and had a baby.

This story, whilst fiction, is based on what might have happened in their home in the recent Census.
