A Sonnet

With Hindsight

by Dolly'sPoems

I see so clearly errors of the past,
as hindsight gave me power to review;
if yesterday could be undone, recast,
I'd change so many things I said to you.

I took so much for granted, life was good,
and bathed in setting suns on oceans deep;
I sailed the seven seas, and let love bud,
my heart was sold to you, and it was cheap.

If only I had kept myself aloof,
so open, that I gave my heart away;
you may have been a little more astute
and realised that in the end we pay.

Without commitment there could be no pledge,
now too much water flows beneath the bridge.
