Remembering a loved one

by David Sumich

Your whispers sing in many ways
They touch my soul and pass my days
Around my ears they dance and play
They call for me to come and stay.

Your eyes connect me right to you
They speak to me like no words do
And when they're closed there are no two
I'd rather see awake renewed.

Then there's that so deep inside
The thing from most you try to hide
It is your heart you've opened wide
Just like mine, now side by side.

Writing Prompt
Write a poem about something or someone you love.

Original artwork by the author.

This poem certainly works if read with the thought in mind of one person longing for another, or even missing one that has passed on, but my actual vision in writing it is from the perspective of the restless soul that has already crossed over, longing for the love they've left behind. The first stanza is about that strong memory, the second is how they watch over their loved one still on Earth, and the last is their final reunion in eternity, "side by side".
