This work has reached the exceptional level
A Nonet poem for Mothers day

If Only

There once lived an amazing woman
Her mind in a faraway place
my face a blurred memory
the grief I hid it well
If only a chance
I was given
to be my
mother's
child

Mum has now passed on but the dementia and the alhzeimers separated us for a very long time
People often say it is better to know the end is coming and one has time to adjust to the inevitable
but
I have come to the conclusion that the best is when we "lose" a loved one that they just simply slips away from this life without warning or time to linger, just die instantly like a fatal heart attack on the spot and the shock catapults you into grief immediately instead of the pre-grief then the grief then the post-mortem of all the previous years
I do so wish to be a child again, even though I have an amazing child of my own and I am too old for such whimsical notions
so
I write
