To be book smart vs life smart.... and then being both. The last category is what I think you are referring to. You can't pass it on, that's for sure. Wish you could though. Especially to your kids. Problem is, the young ones always seem convinced they know better. Enjoyed this piece and loved you did not use big words to illustrate a point-- going casual & easy-- though I see the opposite happen many times.

Thesaurus jungle... where many folks get lost in search of the most complicated word they could use in a sentence. lol!

Excellent photo that complements your poem perfectly. Based on a quote from Einstein. It also describes a bit of IQ versus EQ. I am sure you know about these.
Thanks for sharing.

Since I teach I know a lot about different people and how special they are. I see the questioning in your words.
Sorry so short have to run off to work. I will write more later.

I have read some very thought provoking poems on this site tonight, and this one is certainly one of them. Well put. Well structured and thought out words, put together so as to make the reader think about its message. Thanks for sharing and warmest regards, Marijke :o)

The great thing about poetry is, the sharing. All your thoughts and dreams. If a picture paints a thousand words. Then poetry can surely win hearts and minds.
Nice poem!

Great art work for these words
Our intelligence is a gift
Some of us are not as intelligent as others
We can't all be the same.
We can laugh we can smile and love one another
Love and sharing is a gift as well.

Ya know. . .

I often find myself thinking life is a series of society
teaching us to override our instincts and think/behave
on a set of "communally acceptable" standards.

And I even wonder why. Is it a way to homogenize what
the majority find acceptable - or a way to legitimize what
a small (but powerful) group of people find preferable?

It's an interesting question... or observation really -
How DOES one explain, really, what
internal joy or astonishment means?

How does one even begin to truly understand another
man's thinking?

Wisdom and insight are dulled when not shared. It is totally frustrating to try to illustrate the obvious to one who is oblivious, totally shut down and closed off to learning something new. It is not nice or pleasant, but it is doable.

The obvious to the oblivious. You have a way with words my friend, perhaps you should take up writing? (smile) Thank you.

It would be interesting if one could take everything they have learned within their lifetime and would be able to instantly pass in on to their kids.

Then again, I don't think I would, even if I could.

Kids need to learn things themselves - otherwise they would be missing the value of the knowledge.

Thanks for sharing this. JW

Now that's one of the most insightful insights I have heard. Opened up my dull eyes-truly. "need to learn things themselves-otherwise they would be missing the value of the knowledge." True, oh so true. Wow. I feel like a student again.
